Mandai: Pick One Park

Start here

Mandai is four world-class wildlife parks on one ridge, and the way to ruin them is to book all four. The Zoo is still the one to beat: open habitats, orangutans free-ranging overhead, 8:30am to 6pm, last entry 5pm (mandai.com). Arrive at opening. Animals are active, queues are not. Breakfast with orangutans is a separate ticket and a separate alarm.

Bird Paradise

Bird Paradise is the looker — 3,500 birds, eight aviaries, penguin cove, raptor shows, the reimagined Jurong Bird Park. Half a day. Pair it with the Zoo as the daylight combo if you insist on two. WEST campus: use the free in-park shuttle from EAST, do not assume you can walk it in the heat. River Wonders is Amazon and Mekong and the giant pandas; do it if pandas are non-negotiable, skip it if they are a photo. Rainforest Wild

Rainforest Wild Adventure is the walking safari, formerly Rainforest Wild ASIA, now East and West zones on one ticket. Tigers, tapirs, sun bears, no tram, bring water. Official hours about 9am to 6pm, last admission 5pm. Non-resident adult S$55 regular. It is a different muscle from the Zoo and a poor add-on after three hours of orangutans. Exploria is the indoor multimedia nature room if the sky opens — Monday to Friday 12pm to 8pm last entry 7pm, Saturday, Sunday and public holidays 11am to 9pm last entry 8pm (mandai.com/en/exploria.html). Micro Worlds sometimes closes for a private event; check mandai.com/en/announcements that morning. The other worlds stay open. Curiosity Cove is the under-12s playscape — weekdays 10am to 5:30pm last entry 4:30pm, weekends school holidays and public holidays 10am to 6:30pm last entry 5:30pm (mandai.com/en/curiosity-cove.html). On a weekday, last entry is 4:30pm. Weekday play is unlimited until 5:30pm except school holidays. Grip socks. Not a substitute for animals.

Night Safari

Night Safari is its own evening. Official hours daily 6pm to midnight, last entry 11:15pm (mandai.com). Walking trails and the Safari Adventure Tram start at 7pm: first tram 7pm, last tram 11:20pm, about 30 minutes a loop. Creatures of the Night at the amphitheatre is 7:30pm, 8:30pm and 9:30pm — Mandai's booking portal opens two hours before each show, gates close ten minutes prior, latecomers bounce. Embers of Night is the fire show in the entrance courtyard, 9pm Sunday to Thursday, extra 10pm Friday, Saturday and eves of public holidays, no booking. Eat a proper meal before you go; on-site food is adequate and not a reason to visit.

Getting there

The M2 Khatib Bus from Khatib MRT (NS14) Exit A is the painless way in: S$2.50, about 20 minutes, every 15 minutes (20 minutes after 11pm). First bus from Khatib 8:30am, last 11:40pm; last from Mandai Wildlife EAST midnight. Children under 7 ride free. Contactless only — EZ-Link, Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay. No cash, no NETS FlashPay. Tell the captain if you are hopping EAST to WEST; that ride is free. Factor 45 to 70 minutes from town. 8am is a taxi if you want the 8:30 gate — the first M2 at 8:30 will not make Zoo opening. Breakfast with orangutans is a separate ticket and a 9am alarm, not a walk-up. The free-ranging boardwalk is the Zoo's actual magic and it is included. Upper Seletar Reservoir is five minutes away if you need a rocket tower and a still lake without another ticket. The sea lion habitat is closed until 2027.

The boardwalk

The Mandai Boardwalk outside the Zoo is free and it is the orangutan view a lot of people pay a ticket for. Use it if you are dropping someone at the gate, or if the child has already peaked. Jungle Breakfast is a separate ticket and a 9am alarm, not a walk-up. Upper Seletar Reservoir is five minutes away if you need a rocket tower and a still lake without another ticket. The sea lion habitat is closed until 2027. Closures

Arrive at opening. African Penguin stays shut 31 August to 30 November. House of Kai Kai & Jia Jia is in renovation through 30 November — panda-forest door relocated, pop-up shop 8:45am to 6pm. Rainforest Wild EAST Lemur Land and Split Rock Summit stay closed until 1pm daily through 25 September (mandai.com/en/announcements). The 21–23 September sun bear, leopard, and carousel notices are over; check mandai.com/en/announcements before you promise a specific exhibit. Zoo opening is 8:30am. The first M2 from Khatib is also 8:30am, so take a taxi if you want the gate at opening. Mandai Wildlife EAST is 80 Mandai Lake Road; WEST is Bird Paradise; the in-park shuttle is free and the walk in the heat is not. Do not assume they share a gate.

Pick one

Weekdays. Not public holidays. Not all four. Zoo if you can only pick one. Bird Paradise if you have already done the Zoo. Night Safari for a second evening — Mandai's two-attraction Destination Pass is the Zoo-plus-Night-Safari family at adult S$88, but that listing is the pass explainer, not a checkout, and your feet will file a dissent. Kranji is geographically next door and energetically a different day — crocodiles and farms, not orangutans. You will see animals. Dawn gives you the best versions of them. That is the whole briefing.

The Mandai Boardwalk is 3.3 kilometres around River Wonders and the Zoo, free, daily 7am to 7pm, last entry 6pm on mandai.com. A leisurely loop is 70 to 85 minutes. EAST and WEST public spaces have no official opening hours; the parks inside them do. The mangrove-and-mudflat park east of here is an NParks project for 2028. It is not a walk you can do today. If the Zoo is a different weekend and you still want this ridge without a ticket, Kong Meng San is at 88 Bright Hill Road, Bright Hill (TE7), five minutes on foot, free, a working campus, no indoor photography. It is open when Tian Tian is closed. Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park is the restored river if you came off at Bishan: otters are possible, and the lawn is one residents use. Zoo or monastery, about 90 minutes each.

Breakfast in the Wild is Mandai's official name, not Jungle Breakfast: buffet at Ah Meng Terrace, 9:00 to 10:30am daily, animal appearance typically 9:15 to 10:00am, adult S$47 / child 6–12 S$37 on mandai.com. Kids 0–5 eat free with one paying adult. The Zoo ticket is extra — non-resident adult S$49 regular — so do not treat the buffet as a park pass. Ah Meng is about ten minutes from the zoo entrance. Wildlife ambassadors rotate and are not guaranteed. Ulu Ulu at the entrance courtyard is dinner, not the Night Safari park ticket and not a listing you can book here: daily 6pm to 11pm, last order 10:30pm (mandai.com/en/dine-and-shop/dining-outlets.html). The park ticket is still extra. Eat there, first tram at 7, last tram 11:20. Breakfast in the Wild, the four parks and the Night Safari tram are separate visits.

Amazon River Quest at River Wonders is closed 31 August to 30 September 2026 for maintenance and resumes Thursday 1 October (mandai.com). It is a separate S$5 rider ticket, last ride 5:30pm, riders 1.06 metres and up; children 1.06 to 1.35 metres need a supervising adult. Check the buy page before you promise the ride. From 1 October, check the buy page anyway — weather still suspends the ride and tickets are not replaced. Mekong and Yangtze zones are still in an upgrade through 30 September — parts of those exhibits are fenced, pandas remain (mandai.com/en/announcements). Mandai Park Hopper is the two-attraction pass if you insist on two; it is still not four. Mandai Gallery is the indoor conservation hour if the sky opens and the child has already peaked on tickets. Same EAST building as Curiosity Cove, daily 10am to 7pm, complimentary with a wildlife-park or indoor-attraction e-ticket, WildPass or Friends of Mandai card (mandai.com/en/mandai-gallery.html). It is not a walk-up with nothing in hand. Flash the ticket. It is how the 1970s zoo became a reserve, 45 minutes, and it is not orangutans. Pair it with Exploria if the rain is biblical.
