Botanic Gardens & Bukit Timah

Three green lungs, different jobs. The Singapore Botanic Gardens are UNESCO-listed (2015), free, 5am–midnight (nparks.gov.sg/sbg) — and full of orchids, otters and weekend concerts. The National Orchid Garden inside is the one paid pocket: 8.30am–7pm, last ticket sales and entry 6pm, $15 standard adult / $5 local, children under 12 free (sbg.nparks.gov.sg). Learning Forest is the free wetland-and-canopy slice: 7am–7pm; SPH Walk of Giants, Keppel Discovery Wetlands, Botanist Boardwalk and Pulai Marsh close 7pm–7am for wildlife (sbg.nparks.gov.sg). Healing Garden is 7am–7pm, closed Tuesdays (sbg.nparks.gov.sg). Jacob Ballas Children's Garden is 8am–7pm, last entry 6.30pm, closed Mondays except public holidays; adults enter only with a child. Jacob Ballas closes at 7pm, last entry 6.30pm; HSBC TreeTop Walk closes at 5pm and is closed on Mondays. NParks (updated 9 September 2026): the Tree House is closed for termite damage, replacement hoped around end-2027 — waterplay and the woodland stay open. Botanical Art Gallery is 9am–6pm, last 5.30pm, closed every last Thursday; Heritage Museum 9am–6pm, closed every last Monday — on a Monday that is not the last Monday of the month, it is open until 6pm (sbg.nparks.gov.sg). Everything else on the grounds is free.

Bukit Timah Nature Reserve is the one the name of this page already promised: 163 hectares, an ASEAN Heritage Park, Singapore's highest natural point at 163 metres. Open 7am–7pm, free, pets not allowed (nparks.gov.sg). Beauty World MRT (DT5), then about 10–15 minutes on foot to Hindhede Drive. NParks has demolition works at the summit from July 2026 into March 2028 — check nparks.gov.sg before you count on the top. Groups over 30 need a permit a month ahead. Hindhede Nature Park is the quarry lake at the foot: 9.5 hectares, 7am–7pm, pets not allowed (NParks) — easier than the summit road, macaques included. Trails from the carpark are closed 1 September–31 December 2026 for development works; use the boardwalk from the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve Visitor Centre (nparks.gov.sg). Rifle Range Nature Park is the other Beauty World door: 66 hectares at 126 Rifle Range Road, former Sin Seng Quarry, 7am–7pm, pets not allowed (NParks). DT5 Exit A, then Beauty World Centre Level 4 and the overhead bridge onto Rambai Boardwalk (NParks video). Colugo Deck sits 31 metres above the quarry wetland; a 700m barrier-free route runs from the Visitor Pavilion to the wetland. Dairy Farm Nature Park is the Wallace Trail and a gentler hill, also 7am–7pm. Chestnut Nature Park is the other Central Catchment buffer: 81 hectares, north and south of Chestnut Avenue, 7am–7pm, pets not allowed, observation tower (nparks.gov.sg) — hiking and bike loops, not the summit road and not a Monday TreeTop substitute you stack with Bukit Timah. Part of Blue Quail trail is closed for slope repair until December 2026; access the rest via Black Crawler opposite Piper Hut (nparks.gov.sg). Bukit Batok Town Park — Little Guilin — is the other flooded granite quarry this ridge owns: 42 hectares along Bukit Batok East Avenue 5, 24 hours, no pets, no fishing, no on-site carpark (nparks.gov.sg). Bukit Gombak (NS3) Exit B, then about 400 metres along Bukit Batok East Avenue 5. It is a lookout, not a summit. Bukit Batok Nature Park is not the park around Little Guilin: 36 hectares along Bukit Batok East Avenue 2 and Avenue 6, also 24 hours, a different flooded quarry, carpark on East Avenue 2 (99 lots, fees apply) (nparks.gov.sg). NParks currently flags trails closed for maintenance — the notice map is the Lorong Sesuai stretch, which is also where the WWII memorial plaque sits. Check nparks.gov.sg the morning you go. Beauty World is the listed nearby station; Hillview Park Connector is about twenty minutes between the two quarries if both are actually open. Do not stack Little Guilin, Nature Park and Bukit Timah Hill. The Rail Corridor is the old KTM line, 24 hours (NParks); Bukit Timah Railway Station (1932) is the photogenic slice, not a 24-kilometre marathon. Former Ford Factory at 351 Upper Bukit Timah Road is the indoor hour on this ridge: the boardroom where Percival surrendered on 15 February 1942, Tuesday–Sunday 9am–5.30pm, last admission 5pm, closed Mondays including public-holiday Mondays and CNY Day 1 (corporate.nas.gov.sg). Hume MRT Exit 1 is about three minutes. Citizens and PRs free; tourist adult S$7.13 after GST; cashless only — credit card except Amex and Diners, or NETS. Gallery is cold.

MacRitchie is actual rainforest in the Central Catchment Nature Reserve. Trails 7am–7pm; staying after 7pm is prohibited. The HSBC TreeTop Walk is a 250-metre free-standing suspension bridge, 25 metres up, one-way, closed Mondays except public holidays. Hours: Tuesday–Friday 9am–5pm; weekends and public holidays 8.30am–5pm; last entry 4.45pm. TreeTop closes at 5pm, last entry 4.45pm (Tuesday–Friday 9am–5pm); MacRitchie trails themselves stay 7am–7pm (nparks.gov.sg). NParks still flags the Lower Peirce Reservoir Park boardwalk closed for maintenance until 30 September 2026 — use the Casuarina or Jacaranda entrances for the rest of that boardwalk (nparks.gov.sg). It is not the TreeTop Walk and it is not a Monday substitute. From Venus Drive at Windsor Nature Park it is about 7 km and 3–4 hours return — not a car-park attraction. Thomson Nature Park is the Hainanese village ruins in the forest, shaded, short, 7am–7pm, pets banned — pair with Windsor if the TreeTop Walk is a Monday. The gardens take a slow morning. Bukit Timah takes a 7am start and water. MacRitchie takes boots. Pick one. The other Central listings that land on this page are not a third hill: Kong Meng San Phor Kark See at 88 Bright Hill Road is Singapore's largest Buddhist monastery, free, a working campus, Bright Hill (TE7) about five minutes — modest dress, shoes off in the halls, no indoor photography (kmspks.org). Visitor listings typically run 8am–4pm; the vegetarian dining hall is a donation lunch that runs out, weekdays often by 12.30. Lian Shan Shuang Lin Monastery at 184 Jalan Toa Payoh is the 1902 National Monument, daily 8am–5pm; Cheng Huang Temple the same hours; monastery office weekdays 9am–5pm, Saturday 9am–1pm, closed Sunday (shuanglin.sg). Chong Yang at the columbarium is 18 October 2026, 8am–4.30pm — a family day, not a tourist hour. Toa Payoh (NS19) Exit A for HDB Hub, the bus interchange and the closed Town Park fence; buses 230M, 235 or 238 from the interchange (Exits A/B) to Opp Blk 26. Exit D is the only dedicated barrier-free door (Lorong 2); Exits A, B and C share a lift near Block 500 Lorong 6 (landtransportguru.net). The dragon is eight to ten minutes along Lorong 6 from Exit A toward SAFRA at 293 — not Exit D. Toa Payoh Lorong 8 Market & Hawker Centre at 210 Lorong 8 Toa Payoh is the tray the blocks queue at — Braddell (NS18) is closer than Toa Payoh (NS19) for that door. Kim Keat Palm Market & Food Centre at Block 22 Lorong 7 is not this centre: NEA closed it for repairs and redecoration from 14 September to 13 December 2026 (nea.gov.sg). Do not taxi to Lorong 7 for a tray. Toa Payoh Town Park at Lorong 2 / Lorong 6 is closed 1 February 2024–2030 for redevelopment (nparks.gov.sg) — 4.8 hectares, do not cab there for a pond. The Toa Payoh Dragon Playground at 28 Lorong 6 Toa Payoh, near Blocks 31 and 264, opposite SAFRA Toa Payoh at 293 Lorong 6, is the remaining 1979 mosaic dragon on a sand pit, designed by HDB architect Khor Ean Ghee (roots.gov.sg / Toa Payoh Heritage Trail); it is not inside the locked park. Kidz Amaze at that SAFRA is the indoor if the sky has opened: walk-in, no reservation, socks, adult S$5, Monday–Friday off-peak 1pm–7pm, Saturday, Sunday and public holidays 10am–9pm, school-holiday weekdays 10am–7pm (safra.sg). Toa Payoh Sensory Park on Lorong 5 is the other pocket if a child is with you — echo dishes, bamboo, toilets at the adjacent hawker, not the dragon. Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park is the restored Kallang River: 62 hectares over 3km, 24 hours (nparks.gov.sg), otters possible not promised. Bright Hill (TE7) is about five minutes to the Ang Mo Kio Ave 1 entrance; Bishan (NS17/CC15) is the other door. NParks currently has three bridge notices: Bishan Park Condominium bridge closed 16 September–31 December 2026; Dragonfly Pond bridge closed 24 August–4 December 2026 — use the posted alternatives. The AMK Ave 1 / Marymount junction entrance has been closed since December 2020. Harmony Centre at Masjid An-Nahdhah, 9A Bishan Street 14, is the interfaith gallery this town actually owns — MUIS, opened 7 October 2006, unique in the region (muis.gov.sg / annahdhah.org/harmony-centre). Call ahead: harmony@muis.gov.sg or 6478 4310. Modest dress. Bishan (NS17/CC15), behind the stadium, not Junction 8. The mosque page does not publish drop-in hours — do not invent a 10am slot. Bidadari Park is the easier 13-hectare lawn if MacRitchie is a Monday: 24 hours, Alkaff Lake, Woodleigh (NE11), wheelchair access except the Woodland Experiential Trail and Marshland Boardwalk (nparks.gov.sg). Japanese Cemetery Park and Kovan 209 are tagged Central in our listings and land on this page; the actual morning is Kovan (NE13), on the Punggol & Pasir Ris page. Do not stack a monastery with MacRitchie. Bright Hill if you want scale; Toa Payoh if you want the monument behind Blk 26.
