Free things to do in Singapore

A good deal of Singapore costs nothing to enter: gardens and nature reserves, temples and mosques, heritage trails, waterfront light shows and a few museums and galleries. Free here means no ticket to buy. Some places still ask you to book ahead, and each listing says which.

A free day works best spread across the clock: gardens in the cool of the morning, a museum or temple through the heat of midday, and the waterfront once it cools again. Carry water and a card, because food is the one thing you'll still pay for.

Singapore Botanic Gardens cover 63 hectares of old trees, lawns and lakes, and the gardens are free from 5am to midnight. The National Orchid Garden inside charges, so keep it for another day. Go early, while it's cool.

After dark, the outdoor gardens at Gardens by the Bay cost nothing and need no ticket, and the Supertree lights are the show. Gardens by the Bay (Outdoor Gardens)
