Jurong & the West

The west is where Singapore put the science, the snow, the national gardens in the heartlands, and the tiger-balm fever dream. Jurong Lake Gardens is the outdoor half-day most visitors never hear about: 90 hectares, free, Singapore's first national gardens outside the centre. Lakeside Garden is open 24 hours; Chinese Garden and Japanese Garden run 5.30am–midnight — it closes at midnight (juronglakegardens.nparks.gov.sg). Butterfly Maze is daily 7am–7pm; Clusia Cove water play is Tuesday–Sunday and public holidays 8am–7pm, closed typical Mondays (juronglakegardens.nparks.gov.sg). Forest Ramble (nature playgarden) and SkatePark @ Lakeside Garden are Tuesday–Sunday and public holidays 8am–10pm — closed every Monday for maintenance; it closes at 10pm (it opens at 8am; closed on Tuesday only when Monday is a public holiday). The dog run is 8am–10pm. ActiveSG Park swimming pool is Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday 8am–9.30pm; Monday, Wednesday and Friday 6.30am–9.30pm; closed typical Thursdays — the pool opens at 8am (juronglakegardens.nparks.gov.sg). Bonsai Gallery is 9am–7pm; Jurong Lake Gardens Gallery and Breathing Gallery they close at 9pm (they open at 9am) — same Tuesday–Sunday and PH board, same Monday maintenance close — all three open at 9am (juronglakegardens.nparks.gov.sg). PAssion Wave @ Jurong Lake Gardens is Tuesday–Friday 9am–6pm, closed Mondays and public holidays — it closes at 6pm. Not the Bedok Wednesday–Sunday kayak board (juronglakegardens.nparks.gov.sg / onepa.gov.sg). Chinese Garden MRT (EW25) is about five minutes to the Chinese Garden Bridge; Lakeside (EW26) is about three minutes to Lakeside Plaza. Lights by the Lake lanterns (Legend of the White Snake) run 6.30–10.30pm through 4 October 2026 (NParks / lightsbythelake.nparks.gov.sg) — free, no ticket. They are on from 6.30pm. Forest Ramble and the galleries close for Monday maintenance. Festival programming was 19–27 September; after 4 October this line is historical.

Science Centre Singapore (15 Science Centre Road) is Tuesday–Sunday 10am–5pm, last entry 4.15pm, closed Mondays except public holidays and gazetted school holidays — it closes at 5pm, last entry 4.15pm, an eight-minute walk from Jurong East MRT, not a bus. Standard tourist adult is S$12; Singaporeans and PRs are complimentary on off-peak weekdays and S$6 adult on peak weekends, public holidays and school holidays. Cash is not accepted (science.edu.sg). KidsSTOP™ inside is two timed sessions: 10am–1pm (last 12.15pm) and 2pm–5pm (last 4.15pm), pre-book — the afternoon session ends at 5pm (it opens at 2pm; last entry is 4.15pm, science.edu.sg). Omni-Theatre is Southeast Asia's first 8K 3D digital dome on the same site — 23-metre screen, 221 seats, book a showtime, not a wander. Current board (science.edu.sg): Little Eve 10am and 1pm; Secrets of the Sea 11am, 2pm and 4pm — the films are listed on science.edu.sg. Arrive ten minutes early. A Science Centre + Omni combo is S$23.90 standard adult. Giant J is closed for maintenance until further notice. Snow City next door is the −5°C indoor snow — last operating day 30 September 2026. Official farewell hours: Tuesday–Friday 10am–5pm (last entry 4pm for 1-hour play, 3pm for 2-hour); weekends, school and public holidays 10am–6pm (last 5pm / 4pm). Every Monday is closed except school and public holidays (snowcity.com.sg). Term 4 is underway, not a gazetted school holiday — Snow City last is 5pm (the 1-hour session last start is 4pm; the 2-hour session last start is 3pm, snowcity.com.sg / science.edu.sg). Do not plan it after 30 September. The Rink at JCube closed with the mall in August 2023; it is not a fallback. Real ice after Snow City is Kallang Ice World at Leisure Park Kallang, 5 Stadium Walk Level 3 (Stadium MRT) — session slots, not a walk-in all-day rink. Celestial Nights: Mid-Autumn Edition 2026 runs 19–27 September at Science Centre and Japanese Garden (science.edu.sg / NParks). The Celestial Trail is free — Kinetic Garden to the Breathing Gallery, eight hidden planets. Peak nights are Friday 25 and Saturday 26 September: Omni-Theatre Moon Legends at 6pm, 6.40pm, 7.20pm, 8pm, 8.40pm and 9.20pm, about 20 minutes, S$4; Water Lily Pavilion stargazing 6.30–10pm; 16-inch telescope slots every 15 minutes 7.45–10pm, weather permitting, no personal telescopes or tripods (science.edu.sg). MOONBEATS: AFTERDARK is Saturday 26 September only, 7pm–11pm — silent-disco parade then Hall A, door S$35, early-bird sold out. Watermarks of the Moon at the Japanese Garden Guesthouse is those same two nights, 7.15pm and 8.30pm, 30 minutes (lightsbythelake.nparks.gov.sg). Don't Play Play at the Resthouse runs 14–27 September. Science Centre galleries stay closed typical Mondays — it is a walk-in; do not cab to 15 Science Centre Road at midnight. After 27 September this Celestial Nights line is historical. The NUS Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum at 2 Conservatory Drive, Kent Ridge, has three real sauropod skeletons: Tuesday–Sunday 10am–6pm, last admission 4.30pm, closed Mondays even when a public holiday falls on Monday unless the museum says otherwise (lkcnhm.nus.edu.sg). Three timed sessions (10am, 1pm, 4pm) for capacity — The 4pm session last admission is 4.30pm; it closes at 6pm once inside (lkcnhm.nus.edu.sg). Kent Ridge (CC24). NUS Museum at 50 Kent Ridge Crescent is the free campus gallery next door: Tuesday–Saturday 10am–6pm, closed Sundays and public holidays; Mondays are school and faculty visits by appointment only — it closes at 6pm (museum.nus.edu.sg). Singapore Discovery Centre at 510 Upper Jurong Road is a different west-side indoor — Joo Koon (EW29) Exit B toward Upper Jurong Road / SDC, not Science Centre Road and not Jurong East. Exit A is FairPrice Hub and the bus interchange (landtransportguru.net). About eight to ten minutes on foot, or bus 182 / 182M from the interchange (SAFRA / SDC's own door). Typical hours: weekdays 12pm–6pm, last entry about 5.30pm; weekends, public holidays and school holidays 11am–7pm (NTUC Link / Families for Life listings). on weekdays it closes at 6pm (it opens at noon; last entry about 5.30pm) — confirm defencecollectivesg.com/sdc. It is an afternoon start on weekdays, not a 10am gallery. Singaporeans and PRs enter the permanent exhibits free on those listings. Do not stack it with Science Centre.

Haw Par Villa at 262 Pasir Panjang Road is the adult weird: Chinese mythology in plaster, and Hell's Museum (the Ten Courts of Hell) as a ticketed overlay. Haw Par Villa MRT (CC25) is a one-minute walk to the museum, not to West Coast Park Carpark 3. The outdoor park has been under partial closure for maintenance since 8 December 2025 — Hell's Museum stays open daily 10am–6pm, last entry 5pm, $22 adult / $12 child 7–12, under-6s free, not recommended under 9 (hawparvilla.sg/hells-museum). it closes at 6pm, last entry 5pm (hawparvilla.sg/hells-museum) — Science Centre, Snow City, Lee Kong Chian and NUS Museum also open at 10am, so do not treat Hell's as the only west indoor. Complimentary highlight tours at 10.30am, 12.15pm, 1.30pm, 2.45pm and 4.15pm, register at the lobby, first-come. Part of hell is open to the elements — bring an umbrella. No food, drinks or pets. Haw Ror Villa 5 is selected nights 8 October–15 November 2026, 6.30pm–midnight (hawrorvilla.com) — a night ticket, not Hell's Museum, not HHN. West Coast Park is the other strait this page actually owns: 50 hectares parallel to West Coast Highway, 24 hours, wheelchair accessible, NParks' Play Centre of the West (nparks.gov.sg, last updated 27 January 2026). Area 3 is the 1.1-hectare adventure playground (Carpark 3). Area 2 holds nine BBQ pits you book on axs.com.sg — use 12pm–10.30pm on the day. Area 1, toward the ferry road, has a footpath closed for repair until 31 December 2026. The marsh garden is White-breasted Waterhen and Striated Heron if you sit still; Oriental Pied Hornbill possible, not promised. The promenade lookout is tankers and yachts, not a lagoon you swim in. Clementi (EW23) or Haw Par Villa (CC25) then a bus — not Marine Parade. Clementi Woods Park next door is 12 hectares, 24 hours, along West Coast Road next to West Coast Plaza (nparks.gov.sg); a section is closed for redevelopment from 5 September 2026 — use the posted alternative. Clementi 448 Market & Food Centre at 448 Clementi Avenue 3 is the west tray: NEA hawker, reopened 29 June 2026 after three months of R&R (Jurong-Clementi-Bukit Batok Town Council). Clementi (EW23), a few minutes in the town centre; the park is a bus, not a walk across the AYE. None of this is convenient to the bay. Don't stack Science Centre, the lake gardens, the strait and Hell's Museum in one day.

• Clementi 448 Market & Food Centre, 448 Clementi Avenue 3 — NEA hawker, reopened 29 June 2026 after R&R (Jurong-Clementi-Bukit Batok Town Council). Clementi (EW23), a few minutes in the town centre. The west tray if the strait was the morning. Stalls keep their own clocks; this is not JEM and it is not a kopitiam on West Coast Highway
• JEM and Westgate malls next to Jurong East MRT if Science Centre was the morning
• Cafe 1937 at Haw Par Villa if the park side is open (check current hours — the outdoor grounds have been partially closed since 8 December 2025)
• Don't plan a food pilgrimage; this is a family/oddities day. Pick one hawker. Do not add 448, Yuhua Village and Taman Jurong as a single lunch
