Kranji

Most Singaporeans have never been. Kranji is goat farms, a banana-leaf farm bistro, a wetland reserve with estuarine crocodiles, and a Commonwealth war cemetery on a hill looking at Johor. It is the 5% of the island that still looks like a map from 1970. The Kranji Countryside Association lists the working farms; two that visitors actually plan a morning around are Hay Dairies and Bollywood Farms.

Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve is free, 202 hectares, Singapore's first ASEAN Heritage Park, and the real draw if you like birds. Open 7am–7pm, last entry 6.30pm; you cannot remain after 7pm. Migratory shorebirds run August to April (NParks). Platform 1 is closed for upgrading 6 June–23 October 2026 (nparks.gov.sg) — the rest of the reserve stays open; check the flood-closure PDF before a high-tide morning, because some boardwalks shut when the water comes up. No pets, no jogging, no cycling, no PMDs, no drones. Groups over 30 apply two weeks ahead. Aerie Tower is 18 metres. Kranji Marshes at 11 Neo Tiew Lane 2 is the freshwater sibling: 56.8 hectares, 8 hectares open to the public, 7am–7pm, pets not allowed (NParks). Core Conservation Area is closed except for NParks-approved walks. Raptor Tower is 15 metres, steps only; raptors November to March. It is a taxi from NS7, not a stroll from the cemetery — pick marshes or Sungei Buloh, not both before lunch. Kranji War Cemetery at 9 Woodlands Road is the other half-day: Commonwealth War Graves Commission, daily 8am–6pm, free — it opens at 8am (cwgc.org), about 10–15 minutes on foot from Kranji MRT (NS7). Hay Dairies at 250 Neo Tiew Crescent is Singapore's goat farm: 9am–4pm Monday and Wednesday–Sunday, closed Tuesdays except public holidays, milking 9–10.30am (haydairies.sg). Walk-ins under 10, no booking; groups of 10+ book and pay. It is closed on Tuesdays. Milking is 9am–10.30am on other days. Bollywood Farms at 100 Neo Tiew Road is free to walk and paid to eat at Poison Ivy bistro — Monday–Thursday private pre-booked events and dining only; public hours Wednesday–Friday 10am–3pm, Saturday–Sunday and public holidays 7am–6pm (bollywoodfarms.com/contact-us). The farm's tenancy at Neo Tiew runs to 31 December 2026 (SFA / Straits Times); confirm they are still on site before you cab out.

Bring binoculars from August to April. Bring mosquito repellent every month. Pets are not allowed in the reserve. The cemetery has steps and no food or toilets — use the MRT station first. Farms are a taxi from NS7, not a stroll from the cemetery. Sembawang Hot Spring Park is the other north if you came for toes instead of crocs: 1.1 hectares, free, 7am–7pm (NParks). The cascading pool is four tiers, closed Mondays and Thursdays 11am–2pm for cleaning, so go at opening or after 2. No carpark on site; 114 Yishun Ring Road is 450 metres, eight minutes. Canberra (NS12) is the nearer station than Kranji. Bring your own pail and, if you want the egg station, your own eggs — water comes out around 70°C at the tap. Groups over 20 need a permit. NParks flags weekday evenings 4–7pm and all weekend as crowded. It is not Yunomori. Sembawang Park is the 15-hectare north-coast beach, 24 hours (NParks), 30-metre jetty started by the British in the 1940s — bus 882 from Sembawang (NS11) to the last stop, not Canberra.

Woodlands Waterfront Park is the jetty this north actually owns: 11 hectares along Admiralty Road West, 24 hours, wheelchair accessible, on the Northern Explorer Loop (nparks.gov.sg, last updated 27 January 2026). The 400-metre jetty is the northernmost point of mainland Singapore — NParks' own sentence — a refurbished Royal Malaysian Naval Jetty, old mooring anchors as seats, a restaurant in the old hoist shed (nparks.gov.sg). Fish only in designated spots; follow the signs. Do not feed the monkeys. Cattle egret near the water; Tembusu that flowers in the evening; Sea Almond in a pagoda shape. Carpark on Admiralty West Road: 112 car lots, 27 motorcycle, 3 handicapped; free 6.30–8.30am, fees the rest of the clock. Woodlands North (TE1) Exit 2, then about twelve minutes downslope, or bus 856 toward Woodlands Interchange one stop (landtransportguru.net). Exit 1 is Republic Polytechnic, not the jetty. It is not Woodlands Checkpoint and it is not Sembawang's 30 metres. Admiralty Park at 31 Riverside Road is the largest park in the north: 27 hectares, 24 hours except the nature area 7am–7pm, 26 slides in a 7-hectare playgarden, 20 hectares of forest, mangrove, riverine and grassland (nparks.gov.sg). Unpaved nature path is not a wheelchair. Do not fish. North-entrance carpark closed permanently from 1 August 2023 — use the West carpark on Riverside Road (61 car lots, fees 8.30am–6.30am) or the Waterfront lots. Woodlands (NS9/TE2) or Woodlands North, then bus 169 or 903. Marsiling Park is the old Woodlands Town Garden: 12.8 hectares along Woodlands Centre Road, 24 hours, Marsiling (NS8) (nparks.gov.sg). Staircase closed 15 December 2025–Q1 2029; Ribbon Playscape closed 31 December 2025–Q1 2029 for Woodlands Checkpoint works. The park stays open; parking is limited. Do not taxi there for a slide that is hoarding. Woodlands Regional Library at 900 South Woodlands Drive #01-03, Woodlands Civic Centre, is the indoor hour if the sky opens: Monday–Sunday 10am–9pm, closed public holidays, closed 5pm on the eves of Christmas, New Year and Chinese New Year (nlb.gov.sg). Woodlands (NS9) Exit 2 toward Causeway Point and the Civic Centre (landtransportguru.net). If you come out onto Woodlands Avenue 3 temples, you took Exit 1 — go back in. Do not stack a crocodile, a 400-metre pier and 26 slides.

Yishun Pond Park is the north water most visitors skip because the meme is louder than the pond: 2.3 hectares along Yishun Central, 24 hours, wheelchair accessible, beside Khoo Teck Puat Hospital at 90 Yishun Central (nparks.gov.sg, last updated 27 January 2026). The 14.5-metre Spiral Tower is the cocoon lookout; a bridge from it leads to Yishun Park. The 1,900sqm therapeutic garden abuts the hospital — NParks, 24 hours, built with KTPH for out-patients and anyone else, not a ward visit (nparks.gov.sg). White-bellied sea eagle possible early; Malayan water monitor in the pond; Striated Heron on the edge. Do not treat the hospital rooftop farm as a published visitor hour — KTPH does not list one; the public garden is this pond. Ward visiting at KTPH is 12–2pm and 5–8pm (ktph.com.sg) and is not why you came. Yishun (NS13) Exit E is the underpass toward Northpoint, the pond, Yishun Community Hospital and KTPH (landtransportguru.net). If you come out onto Yishun Street 72, you took Exit A. Yishun Park itself is 13.9 hectares, 24 hours, Singapore's first arboretum (70-plus dipterocarp species), no on-site carpark — park at SAFRA Yishun or the blocks (nparks.gov.sg). The Live Turtle and Tortoise Museum at 11 Chencharu Close reopened 23 August 2026 after leaving ORTO: operator contact page 10am–6pm; tickets at the counter or turtle-tortoise.com — standard 3–6 S$12 / P1 onwards S$16; pink/blue IC 3–6 S$7 / P1 S$11 / 60+ S$7 (turtle-tortoise.com/tickets). AsiaOne (22 August 2026) and Time Out (24 August 2026) list Tuesdays closed. Khatib (NS14) Exit B, about ten minutes past HomeTeamNS along Yishun Walk — not Exit A (that is the Mandai M2). Access from Sembawang Road is closed for construction (turtle-tortoise.com/contact). Do not stack a crocodile, a spring, a pond and 600 turtles.

• Poison Ivy bistro at Bollywood Farms, 100 Neo Tiew Road — farm lunch; Mon–Thu private pre-booked only; public Wed–Fri 10am–3pm, weekends and PH 7am–6pm (bollywoodfarms.com). It is not a Monday walk-in. Reserve on 6898 5001. Confirm they are still at Neo Tiew before 2027
• Hay Dairies at 250 Neo Tiew Crescent for goat milk after the milking session (9–10.30am), not a meal. Closed Tuesdays (haydairies.sg)
• Chong Pang Market & Food Centre, Blks 104/105 Yishun Ring Road — the Yishun breakfast if the spring was the morning (NEA). Stalls keep their own clocks. The centre is due to move into Chill @ Chong Pang around 2027; eat now. It is not Poison Ivy and it is not a Kranji walk
• Yishun Park Hawker Centre, 51 Yishun Avenue 11 — NEA-appointed, Canopy Hawkers Group (nea.gov.sg). The tray next to Yishun Park if the pond was the morning, not Chong Pang and not a mall food court. Stalls keep their own clocks
• Bukit Canberra Hawker Centre, 21 Canberra Link — NEA-appointed, the tray if the spring was the morning. Canberra (NS12). Stalls keep their own clocks. It is not Chong Pang
• Wan Shun / Bai Sheng at 888 Plaza, 888 Woodlands Drive 50 — a 24-hour food court, stall clocks still win, Admiralty (NS10). It is not NEA's list and it is not Chong Pang. Return whatever plate they gave you
• Causeway Point if the library was the rain plan — a mall, not a hawker. Woodlands Library at 900 South Woodlands Drive #01-03 is free, 10am–9pm, closed public holidays (nlb.gov.sg)
• Nothing else near the wetlands; plan around one meal. Pick one hawker. Do not add Chong Pang, 888 and Bukit Canberra as a single breakfast
