Serangoon to Bussorah

Tekka before the heat, Sultan Mosque in the 2pm window

Do both. They are about 15 minutes apart and they will be offended if you treat them as one mural walk. Little India is a wet market that still feeds the neighbourhood. Kampong Glam is a mosque with published visitor hours and a palace that is now a museum. The working-morning and dome stories are the essays. This is the clock that stitches them. Pepper on Rangoon or Balestier is a different morning — the locked villa, not a banana-leaf extra. Golden Mile Thai is Beach Road — Nicoll Highway, not Bugis Exit B. The Toa Payoh dragon is a North-South town — NS19, not this banana-leaf. The Hougang cemetery is further North East — NE13, not this walk.

The constraint is two noon rests and one Friday. Sri Veeramakaliamman at 141 Serangoon Road typically 5:30am–12pm and 5–9pm (srivkt.org). Sultan Mosque walk-ins are Saturday–Thursday, 10am–12pm and 2–4pm, Gate 5 on Bussorah Street — Friday is closed to sightseers (sultanmosque.sg). Best days: Tuesday–Thursday or Saturday. Monday kills the Indian Heritage Centre and the Malay Heritage Centre.

The spice trail is the hosted Tekka if you do not want to guess the banana-leaf. Eat with your right hand. Do not soap the leaf.

The clock

Run it in order. Steal one stop if you must. Hours and from-prices live on the listings — we do not invent them here.

  1. 9:00 AM

    Tekka, Exit C

665 Buffalo Road, about a minute from Little India Exit C. Wet market from about 6:30am; grocers thin after 2pm. Walk the floor before you eat. If you came out on Mackenzie Road, you took Exit A — go back in.

  2. 10:15 AM

    Sri Veeramakaliamman, before noon

141 Serangoon Road. Shoes off, shoulders and knees covered. Exit E for this stretch (not barrier-free). Do not arrive at 12:40. Indian Heritage Centre at 5 Campbell Lane is the air-con layer: Tue–Sun 10am–6pm, last 5:30pm, closed Mondays.

  3. 11:30 AM

    Banana-leaf, then walk

Eat in Tekka or on Serangoon, then walk toward Kampong Glam down the Jalan Besar edge — about 15 minutes. Jalan Besar is hardware and late dim sum, not a third precinct to complete today.

  4. 2:00 PM

    Sultan Mosque, Gate 5

The 2–4pm window. Bugis Exit B is 8–10 minutes to Bussorah if you MRT'd it. Robes at the counter. Main prayer hall is off-limits unless an official takes you. Photograph the exterior any evening; go inside only in the published hours.

  5. 3:00 PM

    Malay Heritage Centre, or stop

85 Sultan Gate. Galleries Tue–Sun 10am–6pm, last 5:30pm, closed Mondays. Compound 8am–9pm those days. Haji Lane is an hour of murals, not dinner — Kandahar and Baghdad eat better. You are done.

Do not stack

  • Friday (mosque closed to visitors) and Monday (both heritage centres closed)
  • Mustafa as the point of Little India — useful, 24 hours, not the visit
  • A third neighbourhood after 4pm — go back to the hotel
  • Ng Ah Sio or Founder after Tekka — that is a pepper morning
  • Golden Mile / Beach Road Thai after the mosque — Nicoll Highway, not this Bugis walk
  • Toa Payoh dragon or Shuang Lin after Tekka — that is a town
  • Hougang cemetery or Kovan 209 after Tekka — that is a northeast town
