Punggol & Pasir Ris

This is the northeast half-day: a slightly feral island park, a waterway through new-town HDB, and a mangrove next to a waterpark. It is not Katong. Coney Island Park is 81 hectares of casuarinas, mangroves and five themed beaches (NParks Areas A–E, left uncleared so the sand stays wild), free, 7am–7pm. Two bridges, no shops, no camping, no fishing. West entrance is the useful one: Punggol Coast MRT (NE18) Exit 2 onto New Punggol Road, then a walk along Punggol Point Walk / Promenade (landtransportguru.net). Casuarina Exploratory, the nature-play area of fallen casuarina logs, sits near that west gate. Wheelchair- and stroller-friendly at the east and west ends; the middle is rugged (nparks.gov.sg, 27 January 2026). The only two wild Paku Raja cycads on mainland Singapore sit near Beach Area C — they grow slowly and can live a thousand years. More than 80 bird species have been spotted, from Baya Weaver to Oriental Magpie-robin. Eat first at Punggol Coast Hawker Centre, 84 Punggol Way #02-55 — NEA-appointed, Kopitiam-run, 40 stalls, 576 seats, daily 6am–10pm, opened 25 July 2025 inside Punggol Coast Mall, about three minutes from the station. East entrance is Lorong Halus Wetland, for cyclists continuing to Pasir Ris. The gates lock at 7pm — do not get stuck inside.

Punggol Waterway Park is the HDB postcard: 25.79 hectares, open 24 hours (NParks), four themed stretches (Nature Cove, Recreation Zone, Heritage Zone, Green Gallery), sunrise joggers, a kayak if you book one. Fishing is not allowed. Jewel Bridge is the dome; Kelong Bridge is the fishing-platform homage; Sunrise Bridge is the eastern dawn view (NParks). Punggol (NE17) Exit A through Waterway Point dumps you on the park; Damai LRT (PE7) is closer to Nature Cove. Punggol Heritage Trail is the 2.75-hectare 24-hour walk between Punggol North Avenue and Punggol Point — Orchard, Cascading and Barringtonia tracks, a recreated old bus stop, Kampong Punggol / private zoos / pig farms on the signs; Phase 2 is due end-2026 (nparks.gov.sg). NE18 Exit 1 (Punggol Digital District / Punggol Way) is the trail door, not Exit 2. Punggol Point Park itself — the 0.4-hectare ship-inspired deck toward Ubin and Johor — is closed 11 August 2026–31 December 2027 for upgrading; toilets stay open (nparks.gov.sg). Do not cab there for the jetty until 2028, and do not confuse it with Punggol Park (16 hectares, 5-hectare lake, Hougang Avenue 8/10, 24 hours, Buangkok or Hougang — nparks.gov.sg) or with Pasir Ris Town Park. Pasir Ris Park is the family coast — 70 hectares over 3.2km, also 24 hours; the 6-hectare mangrove and three-storey birdwatching tower sit in Area 2 near carpark C. NParks puts the mangrove forest walk at 1.5km, one to two hours; cycling is not allowed on the boardwalk. Public guided mangrove walks run in school holidays, 1.2km, 1.5 hours, free, book on nparks.gov.sg. Sixty-five BBQ pits run Areas 1–4 — book on axs.com.sg, $20 a pit, 12pm–10.30pm (nparks.gov.sg). Camping is Area 1 and Area 3 only, free permit through AXS. Area 4 is the 1,600-square-metre therapeutic garden, 67 metres from the sea, the first of its kind with a kelong view (nparks.gov.sg). Area 3 is the playground NParks still calls Singapore's largest. Wild Wild Wet at 1 Pasir Ris Close (Downtown East) is the waterpark: official hours Monday–Friday 12pm–6pm, Saturday, Sunday, school holidays and public holidays 11am–6pm, last admission 5pm, closed Tuesdays (wildwildwet.com, September 2026). They are a waterpark day, not a nature day. Do not stack Coney Island and Wild Wild Wet.

NParks is specific on Coney: stay on the trails, do not feed macaques, do not hold a plastic bag or water bottle up where a monkey can see it, do not enter Haw Par Beach Villa, wear long pants and covered shoes (sandflies), and keep distance from wild boar, stray dogs and the occasional box jellyfish. Punggol Promenade Nature Walk still flags wild boar (pcn.nparks.gov.sg). There is no hawker on the island. Eat first. Pasir Ris Town Park is 14 hectares opposite Pasir Ris (EW1) Exit A, 24 hours (NParks) — marine pond, fishing heritage, not the mangrove. Sungei Api Api is the other mangrove, a park in the new town, boardwalk and sculptures, shorter than Sungei Buloh — pair with Pasir Ris Park, not instead of it. Sengkang Riverside Park is 21.3 hectares, 24 hours, Punggol River and a man-made wetland (nparks.gov.sg): Kupang LRT five minutes to the Visitor or Mangrove plots, Farmway LRT five minutes to the Civic plot. A section of track is closed for pipe laying until 31 December 2026. Lorong Halus Park Connector is partially closed for MRT works until 31 December 2026 (pcn.nparks.gov.sg) — the east Coney-to-Pasir Ris bike is not a given. Tampines Eco Green is the east's wild patch: boardwalks, dragonflies, raptors, almost no tourists. Go early. Hougang is the other northeast this page maps because the hop-on bus treats it as a mall. Japanese Cemetery Park at 825B Chuan Hoe Avenue is daily 7am–7pm, free, the Japanese Association of Singapore's grounds — the largest Japanese cemetery in Southeast Asia (jas.org.sg). Dress like a cemetery. No pets, no drones, no picnic on a tomb. Kovan (NE13) then bus 119 or 136 toward Yio Chu Kang Road, alight opposite the old crocodile farm, walk Chuan Hoe. Hougang (NE14) is the mall, then bus 116. It is not a five-minute stroll from the station. Kovan 209 Market & Food Centre at Block 209 Hougang Street 21 is the tray: Aljunied-Hougang: the next town-council wash is 16–20 November (ahtc.sg). If you land those mornings, the shutters are down — invent the cemetery, or wait until Wednesday. Stall clocks win when they are up. Kovan Exit C is about two minutes to 209; if you came out onto Upper Serangoon and a mall, you took the wrong door. Ci Yuan Hawker Centre at 51 Hougang Avenue 9 is the other Hougang tray — NEA-appointed, operator hours Monday–Sunday 7am–10pm (ciyuanhawker.com.sg), inside Ci Yuan Community Club. Hougang (NE14) then bus 72, 116 or 329 from the interchange to Blk 665, two minutes on foot. It is not Kovan 209 and it is not the mall. Hougang Hainanese Village Centre at Blk 105 Hougang Avenue 1 is the Lorong Ah Soo hawker NEA still lists as Blk 105 — stalls keep their own clocks, a short bus from NE14, not a cemetery breakfast. Kampong Lorong Buangkok at 7 Lorong Buangkok is Singapore's last mainland kampong, privately owned, no ticket — Buangkok (NE15), daylight, small group, do not peer into houses. Chomp Chomp at 20 Kensington Park Road is the Serangoon Gardens evening grill, a taxi from Kovan, not a cemetery breakfast. Do not stack Coney, the cemetery and Settlement crab. Jalan Kayu prata is a short taxi and a night, not a waterway breakfast.

• Punggol Coast Hawker Centre, 84 Punggol Way #02-55 — NEA-listed, Kopitiam, 40 stalls, 576 seats, 6am–10pm, three minutes from NE18. Singapore Fried Hokkien Mee, Hock Hai (Hong Lim) Curry Chicken and South Buona Vista Braised Duck are the named plates from the opening stall list (JTC / Time Out, July 2025). • One Punggol Hawker Centre, 1 Punggol Drive Level 2 — official hours Monday–Sunday 7am–10pm (onepunggolhc.sg). Sam Kee LRT or Punggol (NE17) then about five minutes. The older-town tray if Coast was a different morning. Stalls keep their own clocks
