Henderson Waves at Golden Hour

HarbourFront is a transport machine that happens to own one of the best walks in Singapore. Henderson Waves and the Southern Ridges cost nothing. The cable car to Faber Peak and Sentosa is the paid treat. VivoCity is the mall you use, not the destination. HarbourFront MRT (NE1/CC29) is the hub.

Henderson Waves

Henderson Waves is the 36-metre timber bridge, the highest pedestrian bridge in the country, linking Mount Faber to Telok Blangah Hill. It is free, 24 hours, and you want 5pm to 7pm, not midday — there is almost no shade and the heat on the boards is a different sport. From the mall it is 15 to 20 minutes uphill via Marang Trail, or a short taxi to the Telok Blangah side if knees are a consideration. The wave form photographs itself. Stay for the port lights.

The ridges

The full Southern Ridges run to Kent Ridge is a half-day; Henderson plus a short stretch is an hour. HortPark is the gentler trailhead with themed gardens and a playground — 10.7 hectares, 6am to 11pm (nparks.gov.sg/visit/parks/park-detail/hortpark). Visitor services Monday to Friday 9am to 12pm and 1pm to 5pm; weekends and public holidays 8:30am to 12:30pm (nparks.gov.sg/visit/parks/park-detail/hortpark). Mount Faber Peak is free if you walk Marang Trail; the terrace is a restaurant with a view. The cable car Sky Pass is two lines, harbour, a stop at Faber: adult S$35 / child S$25, daily 8:45am to 10pm, last boarding 9:30pm, ticketing counters typically close 8pm (mountfaberleisure.com / sentosa.com.sg). 9am is still the cabin. Sentosa Line-only is cheaper. Eighteen Pokémon Day-to-Night cabins run through 21 January 2027 on the same page — day interiors, UV silhouettes after dark, not a reason to skip Henderson. Maintenance closures happen — Mount Faber Leisure posts them. Last light before you drop into Sentosa is the right call.

The boardwalk

The Sentosa Boardwalk is the free arrival onto the island, 10 to 15 minutes, covered, harbour on both sides. Ferries to Batam leave from HarbourFront Ferry Terminal at 5 HarbourFront Avenue — the new Singapore Cruise Centre building from July 2026, about 70 metres from the old HarbourFront Centre counters, behind HarbourFront Tower 2. Batam Fast moved 7 July; Sindo and the rest followed 15 July (CNA / Singapore Cruise Centre). Different day, different passport, first boat out. HarbourFront MRT Exit B. Labrador Nature Reserve is the coastal forest and WWII guns looking at the port; Reflections at Bukit Chandu is the hillside bungalow about the Malay Regiment's last stand, Tuesday to Sunday 9:30am to 5pm, last admission 4:30pm, closed every Monday except public holidays. Cashless since 1 April 2025: locals free with NRIC, children 6 and under free, tourist adult S$7* / concession S$5*, GST extra (heritage.sg). One of the best small museums in the country, and almost empty.

The walk

Walk the ridges as a sequence, not a selfie. Marang Trail from HarbourFront MRT to Faber Peak is 15 steep minutes in shade; from the peak, Henderson Waves is another 10 to 15 along the ridge. The Forest Walk is the elevated metal section through the canopy, distinct from the timber bridge, and it is the part people skip because they already got the photo. Certain sections stay unlit 7pm to 7am through 30 September 2026 — nparks.gov.sg said so. Henderson is still 24 hours and still lit. Telok Blangah Hill is 34 hectares, 24 hours except Earth Trail after 7pm, no wheelchair access, the midpoint with Earth Plaza and some of the best un-ticketed views in the south. Gillman Barracks sits below the ridge: contemporary galleries in colonial army blocks, free to wander, check which rooms are open that day.

The sail

The Lights Sail actually boards at Marina at Keppel Bay, which is this neighbourhood, not the Event Plaza. 5:45pm. If you have done the ridges at 4:30, you can be on a boat for Spectra without touching a mall. The Royal Albatross is the tall-ship version of the same sunset, 47 metres, dinner on deck, a different wallet. Eat after in Chinatown or on Sentosa if you are already stuck. HarbourFront at dinner is a food court with a view of a queue for the Express.

The Southern Ridges as a line, if you want the whole thing: Marang Trail (HarbourFront to Faber, 15 steep minutes) → Faber Peak → Henderson Waves (10 to 15 along the ridge) → Telok Blangah Hill / Earth Plaza → Forest Walk (the metal canopy, distinct from the timber) → HortPark → Kent Ridge. That is a half-day, water, a hat, and the humility to taxi the last stretch. Reflections at Bukit Chandu sits on the Kent Ridge end: Tuesday to Sunday 9:30am to 5pm, last admission 4:30pm, closed Mondays, the Malay Regiment's last stand in a hillside bungalow. 9am is thirty minutes to 9:30. Do it as the morning, then walk back along the ridge for golden hour.

HortPark at 33 Hyderabad Road is the NParks start if you want the gardening end rather than the mall end: 10.7 hectares, 6am to 11pm (nparks.gov.sg/visit/parks/park-detail/hortpark). Visitor services Monday to Friday 9am to 12pm and 1pm to 5pm; weekends and public holidays 8:30am to 12:30pm. Labrador Park MRT (CC27) is closer than HarbourFront for that door. Labrador Nature Reserve is the coastal forest and WWII guns looking at the port if the ridge has peaked. Seah Im at 2 Seah Im Road, HarbourFront Exit A across Telok Blangah Road, is the hawker before you climb — SLA-managed, not NEA. Ferries to Batam leave from 5 HarbourFront Avenue, not the mall counters. Different building from VivoCity, different passport, first boat out, 45 minutes of check-in. That is a day trip, not a ridges afternoon. Do not try Henderson at midday and the cable car at 9:25pm. Last boarding is 9:30 and the walk down Marang in the dark is a different sport from the walk up at 5.

Marang Trail from Telok Blangah Road / HarbourFront MRT to Faber Peak is about 800 metres of steps in shade, 15 steep minutes, NParks, not a promenade. Henderson Waves is 274 metres of timber, 36 metres up, 24 hours, the highest pedestrian bridge in the country. The Forest Walk is the elevated metal, about 1.3 kilometres, distinct from the timber — and certain sections stay unlit 7pm to 7am through 30 September 2026 (nparks.gov.sg). 7am is lamps on the metal. Henderson stays 24 hours. Telok Blangah Hill is 34 hectares, 24 hours except Earth Trail after 7pm, no wheelchair. Reflections at Bukit Chandu is Tuesday to Sunday 9:30am to 5pm, last admission 4:30pm, closed Mondays — do it as a morning, then walk back along the ridge for 5pm.

Timing

Do not try Henderson at midday and the cable car at 9:25pm. The last boarding is 9:30 and the walk down Marang in the dark is a different sport from the walk up at 5. Seah Im under the bus interchange is the hawker before you climb. Holland Village is a Circle Line hop from HarbourFront if you want dinner that is not a mall; Dempsey is the long-lunch version if the ridges finished at 1.

Indoor

Singapore Art Museum at Tanjong Pagar Distripark is the indoor hour if a cell has emptied Henderson: 39 Keppel Road, daily 10am to 7pm, last entry 6:30pm, Cantonment (CC31) Exit 1. 10am is the warehouse. It is not a ridges substitute. It is what you do when the timber is a river. Maria Taniguchi: Afterimage runs 24 July to 22 November 2026, Level 3 Gallery 3, General Admission, locals free (singaporeartmuseum.sg). The museum is open on Mondays. Reflections at Bukit Chandu is closed on a typical Monday. Hiroshi Sugimoto: Form Is Emptiness stays through 11 October. Gillman Barracks still sits below the ridge — contemporary galleries in colonial army blocks, free to wander, check which rooms are open that day. SAM, Gillman and a 5pm Henderson are three separate afternoons.

STPI is not on this ridge. It is at 41 Robertson Quay, Monday to Saturday 10am to 7pm, closed Sundays and public holidays. The listing will try to send you south because someone tagged it HarbourFront. Do not. Gillman is the army blocks under your feet. STPI is the river. If a cell has emptied Henderson and SAM is a Monday you already did, go to Gillman, not to Robertson, unless you want a taxi across town in the rain.

Labrador Nature Reserve is the coastal forest this ridge actually drops into, and it is not Henderson. Twenty-two hectares, nature reserve 7am to 7pm, surrounding park 24 hours (NParks, last updated January 2026). Labrador Park MRT (CC27), then Labrador Villa Road, ten to fifteen minutes. Berlayar Creek boardwalk is closed for improvement works from 3 June 2026 until 31 March 2027 — nparks.gov.sg said so — so do not build a mangrove loop on that segment. The Casemate and the Rocky Shore stay closed for safety. Pets are banned in the reserve; they are allowed on the remaining boardwalks and park areas. No cycling, no drones. Groups over 30 need a permit a month ahead. Dragon's Teeth Gate on the shore is a replica; the original long zui was blown up in 1848 to widen the channel. The Keppel Coastal Trail is the elevated boardwalk that still works. Pair it with Reflections at Bukit Chandu as a morning, then Henderson at 5. Labrador Nature Reserve is 7am to 7pm; Berlayar Creek stays closed through March 2027 (Labrador). Marang, Labrador and the cable car are three separate hours. Last boarding is 9:30.

VivoCity is the mall you use, not the destination — toilets, air-con, the Sentosa Express at Lobby L Level 3. Star Performing Arts is the theatre upstairs if a cell has emptied Henderson and you still want a room with a roof. The Southern Ridges guided walk is the hosted version of Marang to HortPark if you want names for the trees. The matinee, the ridge and the cable car are three separate visits. Last boarding is 9:30pm.

The cable car is still 8:45am to 10pm, last boarding 9:30pm (mountfaberleisure.com). 9am is still the cabin. Pokémon overlay still on through 21 January 2027 — 18 themed cabins, day-to-night, sentosa.com.sg, not a Klook mystery. Magical Island Adventure's complimentary pass with a SkyOrb ticket ended 20 September 2026; that complimentary pass has already ended. If you came for Henderson at 5, the cabin is the descent, not the morning. Marang Trail, the themed cabins and a late boarding are separate plans. Last boarding is 9:30pm.
