Labrador Nature Reserve and Bukit Chandu
Reserve 7am to 7pm, Berlayar Creek closed through March 2027, Dragon's Teeth Gate on the shore, and Reflections at Bukit Chandu before you climb Henderson.
Start here
HarbourFront is a transport machine that happens to own a cliff. Most people ride the cable car or walk Marang to Henderson Waves and call it the south. Labrador Nature Reserve is the other south: 22 hectares of coastal secondary forest, the only publicly accessible rocky sea cliff on the mainland, WWII guns looking at the port, and a replica of the rock the British blew up so ships could get in. Labrador Park MRT (CC27) is the door. HarbourFront (NE1/CC29) is the mall.
The reserve
The nature reserve section is 7am to 7pm daily. Entering or remaining after 7pm is not allowed, and NParks means it. The surrounding Labrador Nature Park — lawns, carparks, the buffer — is open 24 hours. Last updated on nparks.gov.sg in January 2026. Pets are banned in the reserve; they are allowed on the remaining boardwalks and park areas. No cycling. No drones. Groups over 30 need a permit at least a month ahead. Hide food if macaques are working the path. This is a nature reserve that happens to have a station, not a station that happens to have a view.
The boardwalk
Berlayar Creek boardwalk at Labrador Nature Park is closed for improvement works from 3 June 2026 until 31 March 2027. NParks posted the closure notice and the FAQs. Berlayar Creek stays closed through 31 March 2027. The Keppel Coastal Trail is the elevated, wheelchair-accessible boardwalk that still works: restored beach-forest habitat, sea views, biodiversity you can actually get close to. The Casemate and the Rocky Shore stay closed for public safety — they have been, in pieces, since the slope works of 2023. Walk the trails that are open. Photograph the ones that are not from the path.
Dragon's Teeth Gate, Long Ya Men, is a replica on the shore. The original rock marked the entrance to Keppel Harbour; the British blew it up in 1848 to widen the channel for modern ships. The copy is a monument to a maritime past, not a climbing frame. War relics around the headland — gun batteries, the old fort — are why this coast was never just a park. ComChest Green is the 1-hectare therapeutic lawn for seniors and anyone who needs a bench that is not a lookout. Oriental magpie-robins and black-naped orioles do the soundtrack. Sea grape and fish-poison trees do the botany. Plantain squirrels will take a plastic bag if you let them.
Getting there
Labrador Park MRT (CC27) Exit, then follow signs down Labrador Villa Road, about ten to fifteen minutes to the park. Carpark B is the useful one if you came by taxi: 60 lots, 24 hours, fees apply. Carpark A and C exist. From HarbourFront it is one Circle Line stop, or a sweaty walk you should not attempt at 2pm in September. Seah Im under the HarbourFront bus interchange is the hawker before you climb, or after, if the cliff has wrung you out. VivoCity is a mall. Seah Im is the meal.
The bungalow
Reflections at Bukit Chandu at 31-K Pepys Road is the indoor hour this coast actually owns. A restored bungalow about the Malay Regiment's last stand at Pasir Panjang on 14 February 1942, Point 226, 1,400 men against a much larger force. Tuesday to Sunday 9:30am to 5pm, last admission 4:30pm, closed every Monday except public holidays (heritage.sg). Pasir Panjang MRT (CC26) Exit A, then 12 to 20 minutes uphill on Pepys Road — about 700 metres from the station, and it is a hill. Cashless since 1 April 2025. Locals free with pink or blue NRIC; children 6 and under free any nationality. Tourist adult S$7*, concession S$5*, family package S$21*, GST extra (heritage.sg/reflectionsatbukitchandu/visit/visitor-information). S$2 off with a National Museum or Changi Chapel stub. Wheelchair and stroller accessible; no flash, no tripod, no costume change. Do it as a morning. Then walk toward Labrador or HortPark, not toward USS.
HortPark at 33 Hyderabad Road is the NParks gardening end of the Southern Ridges: 10.7 hectares, free, 6am to 11pm. Visitor services Monday to Friday 9am to 12pm and 1pm to 5pm; weekends and public holidays 8:30am to 12:30pm (nparks.gov.sg). The park is still open after 5pm; the counter is not. Labrador Park MRT is closer than HarbourFront for that door; buses 51, 61, 93, 97, 100, 166, 963. Gillman Barracks sits below the ridge — contemporary galleries in colonial army blocks, free to wander, check which rooms are open that day. Kent Ridge Park is the west end of the ridges, a canopy walk, the pair with Reflections if you still have legs. HortPark, Gillman, Labrador and Henderson are four separate afternoons.
Henderson
Henderson is the other photograph, and it is a different hour. Henderson Waves is 274 metres of timber, 36 metres up, 24 hours, 5pm to 7pm, not midday. Marang Trail from HarbourFront is 800 metres of steps, 15 steep minutes. The Labrador cliff is the morning. Henderson is golden hour. The cable car is the paid treat: about 8:45am to 10pm, last boarding 9:30pm. The Sentosa Boardwalk is the free arrival onto that island if the cliff has converted you to water. Palawan is free once you are on Sentosa. This coast is not that island.
Singapore Art Museum at Tanjong Pagar Distripark is the indoor hour if a cell has emptied the cliff: 39 Keppel Road, daily 10am to 7pm, last entry 6:30pm, Cantonment (CC31) Exit 1. It is not a Labrador substitute. It is what you do when the timber and the boardwalk are a river. Hiroshi Sugimoto: Form Is Emptiness is extended through 11 October 2026 (singaporeartmuseum.sg) — tourist adult S$20, last entry 6:30pm. Maria Taniguchi: Afterimage is the other room, 24 July to 22 November 2026, Level 3 Gallery 3, General Admission, locals free. The museum is open on Mondays. Reflections is closed on a typical Monday. After Sugimoto, check the calendar, not a May PDF. Pair it with Neil Road tea in Chinatown, not with a 5pm Henderson if the sky is biblical.
A sequence that fits. Reflections at 9:30, last admission 4:30, closed typical Mondays — Labrador from 11, Keppel Coastal Trail, Dragon's Teeth Gate, the guns, off the reserve by 5. Henderson at 5:30 if you still have the ridge in you. Seah Im for a tray. Cable car only if the port lights are the point and last boarding is 9:30, not 9:25. Start Labrador in the morning in September. USS is a separate day from this cliff.
Walking times
Labrador Park (CC27) to the park along Labrador Villa Road: ten to fifteen minutes. Pasir Panjang (CC26) to Reflections: 12 to 20 uphill. Reflections to HortPark: a walk along the ridge, water, a hat. HortPark to Henderson: the Forest Walk, the metal canopy, distinct from the timber — certain sections unlit 7pm to 7am through 30 September 2026 (nparks.gov.sg). HarbourFront to Marang Trail: the mall door. Pack water.
Planning limits
Planning limits: Berlayar Creek stays closed through 31 March 2027. The Casemate and the Rocky Shore stay closed. No drones. No dogs in the reserve. The reserve locks at 7pm, so start well before then. Labrador, Henderson and the cable car are three separate hours. No flash inside Reflections.
Clementi Woods is 24 hours if the reserve gate is 7pm and you still want grass on this side of the island. West Coast Park is the other strait, 50 hectares, 24 hours, nine BBQ pits, tankers instead of a lagoon — not this cliff. The dedicated morning lives in West Coast Park. NUS UTown is the campus lawn, Kent Ridge, a different door from Labrador Park (CC27). Berlayar Creek boardwalk stays closed 3 June 2026 to 31 March 2027. The Keppel Coastal Trail still works. Pair the cliff with Reflections as a morning, then Henderson at 5. Marang, Labrador and the cable car are three separate hours. Last boarding is 9:30.
