Little Guilin Town Park

Beauty World will sell you a summit. Botanic Gardens and Bukit Timah also owns two flooded granite quarries a North-South stop west, and the hop-on bus treats them as one stop. They are two parks. Little Guilin is Bukit Batok Town Park. Bukit Batok Nature Park is the other lake, the other hill, the WWII plaque. Most visitors who come this far came for a twenty-minute photo and never learned the names. Bukit Gombak (NS3) is the door. Use it.

The lake

Little Guilin is 42 hectares along Bukit Batok East Avenue 5, open 24 hours, wheelchair accessible, no carpark, pets not allowed (nparks.gov.sg, last updated 27 January 2026). NParks still bothers to tell you the vicinity was named "coughing hill" for the 1950s quarry noise. The pit flooded in the 1980s. Grey-headed Fish Eagle possible, not promised, a dark-brown upper body and a grey head if you actually look up. Do not fish. Groups over 30 need a permit a month ahead. Do not climb the fences. Do not enter the water. Sunrise is the photo. Twenty minutes is enough only if twenty minutes is all you came for.

Getting there

Bukit Gombak (NS3) Exit B onto Bukit Batok East Avenue 5, then five to eight minutes along the road — NParks used to put it at 400 metres. Bus 945 to Bukit Gombak Stadium (43569) or opposite (43561) is the other door. Bukit Batok (NS2) is a different town centre and a longer walk. There is no carpark in the park. nparks.gov.sg said so, in those words. Hillview (DT3) is Dairy Farm, not this lake.

Nature Park

Bukit Batok Nature Park is not the park around Little Guilin. It is 36 hectares along Bukit Batok East Avenue 2 and Avenue 6, also 24 hours, also a flooded quarry, and it is a different postcode (nparks.gov.sg, last updated 27 January 2026). Carpark on East Avenue 2: 99 car lots, 5 motorcycle, 1 handicapped, fees apply. Pets leashed — that is the opposite rule from Town Park. No fishing. Wheelchair accessible at the plaza. The quarry view is just beyond the playground. Straw-headed Bulbul, Malayan Colugo, Grey-headed Fish-eagle if you sit still. Fruit trees: rambutan, mango, breadfruit, durian. Nectar bats pollinate the durians. This is a walk. Little Guilin is a look.

NParks posted a trail closure for maintenance at Nature Park. The notice map is the Lorong Sesuai stretch, which is also where the WWII memorial plaque sits. The Japanese built Syonan Chureito on this hill; they destroyed it in 1945 so the returning Allies would not. What remains is a plaque and a staircase, and that staircase is currently a PDF. The shrine is gone, and the Lorong Sesuai trail is a notice. Check nparks.gov.sg before you count on the steps. Beauty World, Bukit Batok and Hillview are the listed stations. Hillview Park Connector is about twenty minutes between the two quarries if both are actually open.

Little Guilin, Nature Park and Bukit Timah are three separate mornings. The summit has demolition works from July 2026 into March 2028. A sequence that actually works: Bukit Gombak at 7, Town Park while the cliffs still hold the light. Nature Park at 9 only if the notice map says the plaza is open — playground, quarry, off Lorong Sesuai. Dairy Farm at 10 if Singapore Quarry is the other water you wanted: park 7am to 7pm, quarry 8am to 6:30pm daily, Wallace Education Centre 8:30am to 5pm Tuesday to Sunday, closed Mondays (nparks.gov.sg). Hillview (DT3) is that door. Former Ford Factory when the heat arrives.

Hindhede is the quarry at the foot of Bukit Timah, and the trails from the carpark are closed 1 September to 31 December 2026 for development works — use the boardwalk from the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve Visitor Centre. It is not Little Guilin. Dairy Farm Quarry is filled with earth; Singapore Quarry is the lake. Wallace Trail is 2.2 kilometres, about an hour, Hillview to the old cowshed. Hindhede, Dairy Farm and the two Bukit Batok quarries are four separate visits. Rifle Range is 66 hectares, 7am to 7pm, Colugo Deck 31 metres up, pets banned — a different quarry wetland, a different door.

Walking times

Bukit Gombak Exit B to Town Park: five to eight minutes. Town Park to Nature Park via Hillview Park Connector: about twenty. Hillview (DT3) to Dairy Farm Carpark A: a short walk, 50 lots, fees. Hume (DT4) Exit 1 to Former Ford Factory: three minutes — Tuesday to Sunday 9am to 5:30pm, last admission 5pm, closed Mondays, tourist adult S$7.13. Beauty World (DT5) to Hindhede Drive: 10 to 15. Bukit Batok (NS2) to Town Park is not the short walk. None of these is Tanglin Gate. Pack water. Town Park has no hawker on the lake.

Breakfast

Eat after, not on the granite. Bukit Batok West Hawker Centre at 469 Bukit Batok West Avenue 9, Harmony Village, opened 19 March 2025 — typically 7am to 10pm, 22 stalls, a bus from Bukit Gombak, not a walk you want after the heat. Clementi 448 is the west tray people still name if you are already on the East-West and refuse JEM; lunch before 12:30. Ghim Moh is the Holland-adjacent breakfast. Neither is a kopitiam on East Avenue 5. Return the tray. Pick one hawker. The quarries are a different morning.

Monday

Monday on this granite is still a lake. Town Park is 24 hours. Nature Park is 24 hours. Dairy Farm is 7am to 7pm, Mondays included; Wallace Education Centre is the Monday that is closed. Former Ford Factory is closed Mondays. The TreeTop Walk is closed Mondays. West Mall is the mall. A Monday here is a 7:15am cliff and a tray that is still serving. The Wallace Education Centre opens Tuesday.

Zhenghua sits further along the Rail Corridor if you actually have the kilometres. Chestnut is hiking and mountain-bike loops, 7am to 7pm, pets banned in the nature-park bits. Hiking and mountain-bike loops stay separate. Pang Sua Pond is the floating wetlands in Choa Chu Kang; Choa Chu Kang Park is the residents' lawn. West Coast Park is the strait, BBQ pits, tankers, a different west — West Coast Park. None of these is Little Guilin. Botanic Gardens from 5am; National Orchid Garden 8:30am–7pm; MacRitchie Treetop Walk from 8:30am on Sundays (Botanic Gardens and MacRitchie: orchids, bridge and forest hours). The line lives in Rail Corridor.

A sequence that fits. Town Park at 7. Nature Park plaza at 9 if the notice is kind. Dairy Farm Singapore Quarry at 10, off by 6:30. Ford Factory at 2, last admission 5. Clementi 448 if 448 is the point of the west, not a third quarry. MacRitchie at 7 and this granite at 9 are two mornings. The TreeTop Walk still closes Mondays. This lake does not. Bukit Gombak Park across West Avenue 5 is 4.8 hectares, 24 hours, a 400-metre loop with 108 steps, a butterfly garden, a dog run — useful if a child is the point and Town Park banned the dog. It is not Little Guilin either.

Planning limits

Planning limits: Town Park and Nature Park are different quarries. Start in the morning in September. No climbing the fences. No fishing. No dogs at Town Park. Little Guilin, Hindhede and Singapore Quarry are three separate mornings. No drones on the colugo. The Bukit Timah summit has demolition works from July 2026 into March 2028.
