Rail Corridor: Bukit Timah Station, Hindhede, Ford Factory

The Rail Corridor is the old KTM line, 24 kilometres of greenway from Tanjong Pagar to Woodlands, and it is not a park. Parks have loops. This has a direction. A section of Rail Corridor (South) from Henderson Road to Spooner Road is closed for trail works through 31 July 2027; Jalan Kilang Barat to Henderson reopened 2 March 2026 (railcorridor.nparks.gov.sg/faq, last updated 22 July 2026). Henderson Road to Spooner Road stays closed through 31 July 2027. Bukit Timah Railway Station is the photogenic slice: the 1932 station building, the tracks, the light through the trees. Rent a bike near the hill. Walk a kilometre if you only have an hour. Henderson Road to Spooner Road stays closed through 31 July 2027, so the full 24 kilometres is not one ride.

The rainforest

This neighbourhood is where the corridor meets the actual rainforest, and collapsing the two into a 'nature morning' is how you spend 11am in a taxi arguing about shoes. The Botanic Gardens are orchids and a lawn concert. MacRitchie is a bridge in the canopy. The corridor is a line. Pick one.

Getting there

Beauty World MRT (DT5) is 10 to 15 minutes on foot to Hindhede Drive, which is the door for both the hill and the station. Hindhede Nature Park is the quarry lake at the foot of Bukit Timah, easier than the summit road, macaques included. Bukit Timah Nature Reserve is 163 hectares, an ASEAN Heritage Park, Singapore's highest natural point at 163 metres, open 7am to 7pm, free, pets not allowed. NParks has demolition works at the summit from July 2026 into March 2028 — check nparks.gov.sg before you count on the top. Groups over 30 need a permit a month ahead.

Ford Factory

Former Ford Factory, where the surrender was signed on 15 February 1942, is the indoor hour on this ridge and almost never crowded. Do it after the hill, not instead of it. Dairy Farm is the Wallace Trail and a gentler hill if the summit is a worksite: 7am to 7pm, Singapore Quarry 8am to 6:30pm daily, Wallace Education Centre 8:30am to 5pm Tuesday to Sunday, closed Mondays (nparks.gov.sg). Little Guilin is Bukit Batok Town Park, not Bukit Batok Nature Park — 42 hectares versus 36, pets banned versus leashed, Bukit Gombak versus a Hillview connector. None of these is the Botanic Gardens. The gardens take a slow 7am at Tanglin Gate. This takes water and the humility to turn around.

The Eco-Link

The Eco-Link@BKE is the wildlife bridge over the expressway. You cannot walk on it. View it from the Bukit Timah or Dairy Farm trails; animals use it, you photograph from below. It is not a destination. It is how you remember that the forest here is still trying to be a forest. Kampong Lorong Buangkok is not on the corridor — it is the last mainland kampong, zinc roofs, dirt paths, still lived-in, a taxi from Serangoon. It is someone's home. Walk quietly. Do not peer. Do not treat it like a zoo. It is the sentence people reach for when they say Ubin without getting on a boat.

The slice

A slice that actually works. Beauty World at 7:30. Hindhede quarry while the light is still kind. The Railway Station for twenty minutes of looking. Former Ford Factory when the heat arrives. A kopi at Beauty World on the way out. That is a morning. The summit and MacRitchie are separate mornings. Holland Village is the evening if the ridge has converted you to the slow west.

On the line

There is no MRT that dumps you on the tracks. That is the point. Pack water. Hide food; macaques at Bukit Timah will take it. The corridor is open in a way a reserve is not — you can be on it after 7pm, and at dusk the station building holds the light. Do not be on the Bukit Timah summit road after 7. NParks means it.

Hume MRT (DT4) Exit 1 is three minutes; Beauty World is the hill, not the museum. English guided tours typically Saturday and Sunday at 11am and 3:30pm. Bukit Brown sits off this ridge as the cemetery the corridor never became: forest, graves, macaques. Walk quietly. It is not a park. Planning limits

Planning limits: start in the morning in September. Henderson to Spooner stays closed through 31 July 2027 (railcorridor.nparks.gov.sg/faq). Walk an open slice. The Railway Station is a stop on that walk, not a ten-minute photo on the way to a mall.

Rifle Range Nature Park sits on this line: 66 hectares, 7am to 7pm, an entrance off the corridor, Colugo Deck 31 metres above the old Sin Seng Quarry, pets banned. Hindhede trails from the carpark are closed 1 September to 31 December 2026 for development works — NParks — use the boardwalk from the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve Visitor Centre. The corridor itself is 24 hours in a way the reserve is not. Do not be on the summit road after 7. Do not be on Rifle Range after 7 either. The station building will still hold the light.

Bukit Batok Nature Park is the other quarry if Little Guilin was a fence you did not climb, and it is not Town Park's garden. 36 hectares, 24 hours, carpark on Bukit Batok East Avenue 2 (99 lots, fees), pets leashed. NParks posted a trail closure for maintenance on the Lorong Sesuai stretch — that is also the WWII plaque. Check the notice map before you count on the stairs (nparks.gov.sg, last updated 27 January 2026). Zhenghua Park sits further along the corridor toward the north if you actually have the kilometres. Beauty World (DT5) is still 10 to 15 minutes to Hindhede Drive. Hume (DT4) Exit 1 is three minutes to Former Ford Factory — Tuesday to Sunday 9am to 5:30pm, last admission 5pm, closed Mondays, tourist adult S$7.13. Little Guilin: 42 hectares; Bukit Gombak Exit B is five minutes; the Lorong Sesuai trail is closed (Little Guilin). Do not treat the Railway Station as a ten-minute photo stop on the way to a mall.

Bidadari Park is the new-town lake if you came off the corridor at the north end and still want water that is not a reservoir. Clementi Woods is 24 hours at the west end, a lawn, not a railway station. The Rail Corridor is 24 kilometres of the old KTM line; Bukit Timah Railway Station is the photogenic bit, not the whole walk. Beauty World remains 10 to 15 minutes to Hindhede if you want the hill after the tracks. Do not treat the station as a ten-minute photo stop. Walk further.
