Yishun: Khoo Teck Puat Garden

Kranji will sell you crocodiles. Mandai will sell you orangutans. Yishun Pond is the other north: 2.3 hectares along Yishun Central, open 24 hours, a stormwater pond a hospital adopted, and it is not a meme. NParks last updated the page on 27 January 2026. Yishun (NS13) is the door. Khatib (NS14) is the turtles. Canberra (NS12) is the spring. They are three North-South stops and they are not interchangeable with a taxi drop at a food court named 925.

The pond

The pond is the visit if a hospital garden is the point. Khoo Teck Puat Hospital at 90 Yishun Central opened in 2010 as a hospital in a garden — wards face the water, planted terraces between the towers, 40 percent of the blue-green space publicly accessible (Living Future / KTPH). The pond itself is NParks: wheelchair accessible, parking at the hospital, Tzu Chi Humanistic Youth Centre or Nee Soon Sports Centre, no on-site lot of its own. A loop is about a kilometre. Floating wetland islands hold the herons and egrets. White-bellied sea eagle possible early, not promised — NParks calls it a true early bird. Malayan water monitor in the water, up to three metres if you needed a reason not to paddle. Striated heron on the edge. This is a concrete pond that learned to be a park. It is not MacRitchie.

The tower

The Spiral Tower is the photograph this town actually owns. Fourteen and a half metres, cocoon-shaped, inspired by a butterfly's lifecycle, a 180-degree look at the pond and the hospital promenade (nparks.gov.sg). A bridge from the tower leads into Yishun Park. Climb it at 7:15am if you want it empty. Climb it at 5pm if the light is the point. The tower is a lookout, not a playground. Do not fly a drone over a working hospital. The therapeutic garden on the north edge, 1,900 square metres abutting Yishun Central, is also 24 hours — built with the hospital for horticulture and rehab, Stay on the public paths. The wards are 12pm to 2pm and 5pm to 8pm. The pond is not a ward. Tower A is the hospital, not the garden.

The park

Yishun Park is the other green, and it is not the pond. 13.9 hectares bounded by Yishun Avenue 4, Yishun Central, Yishun Avenue 11 and Yishun Ring Road, open 24 hours, developed on an old rubber estate (nparks.gov.sg, last updated 27 January 2026). No carpark in the park; SAFRA Yishun or the blocks. Singapore's first arboretum sits inside: more than 70 dipterocarp species, the forest giants of Southeast Asia, Dark Red Meranti that can run to 60 metres, Keruing, Resak Rawa. Kingfishers, woodpeckers, herons if you actually look. Common Mormon near the nature playgarden. Pets are allowed in the park; they are not a reason to let a dog into the pond's therapeutic beds. The bridge from the spiral tower is the stitch. SAFRA Yishun is the carpark. The pond is a different door.

Breakfast

Chong Pang at 105 Yishun Ring Road is the tray this postcode actually breakfasts at. Built 1984, wet market and cooked food, stall clocks win. Ji De Lai Hainanese Chicken Rice at #01-152 is the plate the north still names — Michelin Bib Gourmand since 2023, chilli without vinegar because the neighbourhood asked for it. Stall clocks still win; morning is the hour. Chuan Kee boneless braised duck is typically the Saturday that is closed. Xiang Xiang fishball noodles typically Tuesday to Sunday from 6am. Return the tray. Yishun (NS13) is ten to fifteen minutes on foot. Chong Pang City — nine storeys, a new hawker, 58 food stalls, 123 market stalls, three pools — topped out 18 April 2026 and is due in 2027 (SLA). Stallholders stay at 104 and 105 until the new centre is ready; the vacated blocks become a plaza in 2028. Eat now. The longer 1984 grammar will not survive a 2027 move without becoming a different room.

Yishun Xinghua is the other north tray if Chong Pang was a snack and you still want long tables. Stall clocks win. It is not Old Airport Road. The hawker at 51 Yishun Avenue 11, Yishun Park Hawker Centre, is the 2017 room next to the arboretum: Nasi Lemak Ayam Taliwang if Indonesian coconut rice is the hour, typically from 6:30am, stall clocks still win, about 15 to 20 minutes from Yishun (NS13) or a short bus. It is not a listing of its own. It is what you do the morning the park was the point. Chong Pang, Xinghua and the park hawker are three separate trays.

Live Turtle Museum is the indoor if a child is still with you and the tower has peaked. 11 Chencharu Close, reopened 23 August 2026 after leaving Chinese Garden in 2018 and ORTO in 2025 — more than 600 turtles from over 30 species, walk-in, no timeslot (turtle-tortoise.com). Daily 10am to 6pm except Tuesdays; open public holidays even if Tuesday. Last entry around 5:40pm. Tourist S$12 ages 3–6 / S$16 P1 onwards; pink or blue IC S$7 ages 3–6 or 60+ / S$11 P1 onwards. Khatib (NS14) Exit B, then about ten minutes past HomeTeamNS along Yishun Walk; access from Sembawang Road is closed for construction. Feed at the counter. It is not Jurong Lake and it is not a west-side oddity. The tower, the turtle museum and the hot spring are three separate visits.

One morning

The pond, Sungei Buloh and the Zoo are three separate mornings. A sequence that actually works: Chong Pang at 7 if Ji De Lai is the hour. Pond at 8:30 while the eagles still hunt. Tower, then the arboretum if the trees are the point. Turtles after 10, and only if it is not Tuesday. Sembawang Hot Spring only if you skipped the shells — 7am to 7pm, cascading pool closed Mondays and Thursdays 11am to 2pm, Canberra (NS12), a pail, 70°C at the tap. Sembawang Hot Spring: cascading pool closed Mondays and Thursdays 11am–2pm; the toe pool is about 40°C (Sembawang Hot Spring).

Yishun (NS13) Exits C, D or E, then eight to eleven minutes, about 700 to 850 metres, to Khoo Teck Puat and the pond — not a dump at Northpoint. Station to Chong Pang at 105: ten to fifteen on foot, or a short bus toward Yishun Ring Road. Khatib (NS14) Exit B to the turtles: about ten minutes along Yishun Walk. Canberra (NS12) to the spring: a short bus, then 400 metres, or the eight-minute walk from 114 Yishun Ring Road. Yishun Park Hawker Centre at 51 Yishun Avenue 11: 15 to 20 minutes from NS13, or bus 811 or 812. None of these is Kranji (NS7). Pack water.

Monday

Monday on this corner is still a pond morning. The park is 24 hours. The tower does not close. Chong Pang's stall clocks still win. The turtles are the Tuesday that is closed, not the Monday. The cascading pool at Sembawang is closed 11am to 2pm. The Zoo and this garden are separate Mondays. A Monday here is a 7:15am tray and an empty tower. The turtles are closed on Tuesday.

The morning

A sequence that fits. Chong Pang at 7. Pond and tower at 8:30. Arboretum if a child still has legs. Turtles at 10 if it is not Tuesday, last look 5:40. Spring only if you skipped the museum, and only outside the Monday cleaning window. Sembawang Park at 5 if the 30-metre jetty is the light. Woodlands Waterfront is the other jetty, 400 metres, Woodlands North (TE1) twelve minutes, Johor across the strait — a different north, a different evening. Admiralty Park is the rainforest fragment. Woodlands 888 is the Causeway tray. None of these is the pond. Woodlands Waterfront: 11 hectares, 24 hours, a 400m jetty about 12 minutes from TE1 (Woodlands Waterfront). Sungei Buloh at 7am; shuttles leave from Kranji MRT (Kranji, the Countryside 5%).

Kidz Amaze is not at SAFRA Yishun. It is Toa Payoh, Jurong and Splash at Punggol (safra.sg). SAFRA Yishun is the carpark for the arboretum, a gym, a club, not an indoor playground listing. Kidz Amaze is at Toa Payoh, Jurong and Punggol, not at 60 Yishun Avenue 4. Toa Payoh Town Park stays closed until 2030; Shuang Lin is 8am to 5pm (Toa Payoh Dragon). Kranji War Memorial is 8am to 6pm, steps, no cafe, a different register if wartime history is why you came north. The hospital garden, Kranji War Memorial and Sungei Buloh are three separate visits.

Planning limits: the pond is a hospital garden, not a Northpoint annex. Do not photograph the wards. Start in the morning in September. The pond, the Zoo and the spring are three separate Mondays. Keep children off the 70°C tap.
