Monday is the day most first-timers invent and then waste. Sri Mariamman rests at noon. Tian Tian at Maxwell is closed. The HSBC TreeTop Walk is closed except public holidays. The Indian Heritage Centre is closed. Science Centre is closed except public holidays and gazetted school holidays. Lee Kong Chian is closed. Baba House is locked until 2027 — not a Monday, every day. Former Ford Factory is closed. The Malay Heritage Centre galleries are closed. Reflections at Bukit Chandu is closed on a typical Monday; when it is open, cashless tourist adult is S$7* / concession S$5*, locals free (heritage.sg). The Changi Chapel is closed except public holidays. Chye Seng Huat is closed. That is not a ruined day. That is a different map.

City Gallery

The indoor Monday that the rest of the island forgets sits next to the chicken rice you cannot have. Singapore City Gallery at 45 Maxwell Road, the URA Centre, is Monday to Saturday 9am to 5pm, closed Sundays and public holidays, free (ura.gov.sg, last updated June 2026). A three-minute projection of the city runs every 20 minutes from 9am to 5:40pm. Groups over 20 must book a slot. No food, no bottled water, no luggage inside. Maxwell MRT (TE18) is a few minutes; Tanjong Pagar (EW15) is six. You will look down on a room-sized model of the island while Tian Tian's shutter is still down across Kadayanallur Street. That is the correct joke. If Maxwell Road has filled you and it is still Monday afternoon, the Chinatown Heritage Centre at 48 Pagoda Street is daily 10am to 8pm, last entry 7:15pm, The maintenance close is 13 October 2026 (chinatownheritagecentre.com.sg/plan-your-visit). Under-3s free; children under 12 with an adult; book a timeslot. City Gallery locks at 5. The cubicles still take you until 7:15.

Temples

Temples that do not take Monday off: the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple at 288 South Bridge Road, free, 7am to 5pm, rooftop orchid garden included. 7am is the temple. Hundred-Buddhas Offerings run through 25 September 2026: 100 ten-cent coins, not a ticket (buddhatoothrelictemple.org.sg). Kwan Im Thong Hood Cho at 178 Waterloo Street runs 7am to 6:30pm with no midday rest — the temple's own 2026 Chinese New Year notice kept those hours, and they still hold in September. No photography inside. Bras Basah (CC2) Exit A is five minutes. Sri Mariamman is the one that locks at noon and reopens 6pm to 9pm (9:15pm Fridays) — smt.org.sg. Monday evening is 9pm, not Friday's 9:15. Do it after 6am, or wait for 6pm after the midday rest. Masjid Al-Abrar at 192 Telok Ayer Street is the Chulia mosque on the same street as Thian Hock Keng; dress, shoes, a working prayer hall, not a museum with a gift shop.

The Gallery

The National Gallery is daily 10am to 7pm, last admission 6:30pm, including Mondays (nationalgallery.sg). City Hall Exit B, four minutes. Passion is Volcanic ended on 20 September. Art Remembers is the current Level 3 show through 18 October, General Admission, locals free (nationalgallery.sg). The UOB Southeast Asia Gallery stays shut until late 2027; the rest of the building is still the visit. If you land 7–12 October 2026, the Gallery remains open with no change to hours, but the carpark closes from 9 October 10am and the Padang Atrium entrance facing the Padang is inaccessible 5–11 October — nationalgallery.sg posted it. Use Coleman Street or Parliament Place. Smoke & Mirrors still books sunset. David Hockney: Bigger & Closer last-admits at 6pm Monday to Thursday (gardensbythebay.com.sg). The portraits do not care that the bridge in the canopy is locked.

The cultural centre

SINGAPO人 at the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre, 1 Straits Boulevard Level 2, is the other free civic indoor: Monday 2pm to 8pm, Tuesday to Sunday 10am to 8pm including public holidays, walk-in, no registration (singaporeccc.org.sg/visit). Bit Bit Forest on the roof garden still runs 10am to 10pm through 13 December 2026, free (singaporeccc.org.sg/events/bit-bit-forest-mid-autumn-light-up-maff-2026). English tours Saturday and Sunday at 3pm, Mandarin at 4pm, first-come on Level 2. Downtown (DT17) or Raffles Place. Monday opens at 2pm. Pair it with the City Gallery in the morning and you have used Maxwell Road and Straits Boulevard without touching a coach.

STPI

STPI at 41 Robertson Quay is Monday to Saturday 10am to 7pm, closed Sundays and public holidays, free (stpi.com.sg/plan-your-visit). Last admission is 7pm. Eko Nugroho: STRANGE MONSTER VIEW runs 22 August to 10 October 2026, chilli crabs and cyborgs from a 2025 residency, still free (stpi.com.sg/whats-on/eko-nugroho-strange-monster-view). Fort Canning (DT20) Exit A is about eight minutes along River Valley Road; Clarke Quay (NE5) Exit C about twelve along the river. It is not at Gillman Barracks. Gillman is the colonial army blocks under the Southern Ridges. STPI is the river. Gillman Barracks is south. STPI is on the river.

The Zoo

If the civic grid has filled you, change register. The Zoo at Mandai is 8:30am to 6pm, last entry 5pm. Orangutans are at opening (mandai.com/en/announcements). The M2 from Khatib (NS14) Exit A is S$2.50, first bus 8:30am, so a taxi is how you actually make orangutan hour. Night Safari is daily 6pm to midnight, last entry 11:15pm (mandai.com). Walking trails and the first tram start at 7pm; last tram 11:20pm. Creatures of the Night is 7:30pm, 8:30pm and 9:30pm. Embers of Night is 9pm, with an extra 10pm on Friday, Saturday and public holidays. The TreeTop Walk is open on Tuesdays. Check mandai.com for that day's exhibit closures. Bird Paradise is a separate day. Mandai Zoo opens at 8:30am; Night Safari is its own evening; one park is a day (Mandai: Pick One Park).

The monasteries

The monasteries behind the HDB are the other Monday nature, and they do not require boots. Kong Meng San at 88 Bright Hill Road is Singapore's largest Buddhist monastery, free, a working campus, Bright Hill MRT (TE7) then about five minutes. Modest dress, shoes off in the halls, no indoor photography. The vegetarian dining hall is a donation lunch that runs out; weekdays it is done around 12:30. Lian Shan Shuang Lin at 184 Jalan Toa Payoh is the 1902 National Monument, daily 8am to 5pm (shuanglin.sg), Toa Payoh (NS19) then bus 230M, 235 or 238 to Opp Blk 26 — about four stops, then a walkway near Blk 27. Fifteen minutes on foot if you like being lost in a town that still works. Neither is Chinatown incense. Both are open when Tian Tian is not.

Sembawang Hot Spring is the north's free foot bath, 1.1 hectares, 7am to 7pm (NParks). The cascading pool is closed Mondays and Thursdays 11am to 2pm for cleaning, so go at opening or after 2. No carpark on site; 114 Yishun Ring Road is 450 metres, eight minutes. Bring your own pail. The water comes out around 70°C; the sulphur is the point, not a rumour. Groups over 20 need a permit. Weekend queues are a different sport. Kranji is the next ridge if you came for crocs instead of toes — Poison Ivy at Bollywood Farms is private dining only on Mondays (bollywoodfarms.com/contact-us), Hay Dairies is 9am to 4pm and open this Monday (haydairies.sg/contact-us), and Sungei Buloh still opens at 7. The Jurong Frog Farm public gate has been locked since February 2023.

Pearl's Hill City Park is 8.5 hectares around a service reservoir above Chinatown, open 24 hours (NParks), no wheelchair access, Outram Park about ten minutes uphill. Tembusu, a lotus pond, CBD through the trees. Do it at 6pm when Maxwell is a thinner centre and the roofs have not started. Hong Lim Park is the tiny civic lawn with Speakers' Corner if you want a bench and pigeons instead of a climb.

A Monday sequence that fits. City Gallery at 9. Maxwell without Tian Tian — Zhen Zhen Porridge has been feeding the neighbourhood since dawn. Buddha Tooth if you still have incense, or Kwan Im if you started at Bras Basah. Gallery from 10 until you are done with courtrooms — last admission 6:30pm. STPI last-admits at 7pm. SINGAPO人 last-admits at 8pm (singaporeccc.org.sg). Bit Bit Forest on the roof runs until 10pm (singaporeccc.org.sg). Chinatown Heritage Centre last entry 7:15pm if the cubicles are the indoor after City Gallery locks at 5. Sri Mariamman from 6 if you missed the morning window, until 9pm (smt.org.sg). Spectra at Event Plaza is 8pm and 9pm Sunday to Thursday, plus 10pm on Friday and Saturday. Grove Rhapsody at 7:45 or Lights by the Lake at 6:30. Spectra is a separate evening. Cloud Forest last admission is 8pm; Flower Dome, Floral Fantasy and OCBC Skyway last-admit at 8:30 (gardensbythebay.com.sg). Zoo only if you have the MRT time and a child who will not forgive a closed bridge. Night Safari last-enters at 11:15pm, last tram 11:20 (mandai.com). Sembawang only if you missed the 11am cleaning window. The park closes at 7pm. The Zoo, Kong Meng San and the Gallery are three separate Mondays.

Planning limits: Science Centre is closed on a typical Monday. Baba House on Neil Road closed 31 May 2025, restoration through 2027. Sultan Mosque's sightseeing lock is Friday; Monday is open. Wild Wild Wet is closed Tuesdays. The TreeTop Walk reopens Tuesday. Kwan Im's fortune sticks are there until 6:25, and photography stays outside.

Jacob Ballas is closed typical Mondays except public holidays, so a family Monday is not the waterplay. The Children's Museum is closed Mondays — Into the Hawkerverse last day is Sunday 27 September, not a Monday walk-up (heritage.sg). MINT is closed Mondays. Chye Seng Huat is closed Mondays. Snow City is closed every Monday except school and public holidays (snowcity.com.sg/operating-hours) Last day is 30 September. Hell's Museum is daily 10am to 6pm, last entry 5pm (hawparvilla.sg) The last highlight tour is 4:15. The Buddha Tooth Relic Temple is 7am to 5pm daily, so this evening is Sri Mariamman's 6pm door, not the relic chamber. Monday evening closes at 9pm, not Friday's 9:15 (smt.org.sg). Palawan is free. The Zoo is 8:30am to 6pm, last entry 5pm. Sembawang's cascading pool is closed 11am to 2pm on Mondays — go at opening or after 2. SINGAPO人 opens at 2pm on Mondays and last-admits at 8pm.

Through 4 October 2026, Lights by the Lake is a Monday evening the west will actually give you: lanterns 6:30pm to 10:30pm, Lakeside (EW26), free. Check the air-quality reading on lightsbythelake.nparks.gov.sg before you go. Cloud Pagoda light show 7:30pm to 10pm every 30 minutes, last show 10pm; the lanterns hold until 10:30. Forest Ramble, SkatePark and Clusia Cove are closed every Monday for maintenance except public holidays — on Mondays those rooms are closed; the lawns and the lanterns stay open (juronglakegardens.nparks.gov.sg/operating-hours-and-services). The other Monday evening is the grove: Garden Rhapsody 7:45pm and 8:45pm every night, free; Borealis is Saturday, Sunday and Monday, 9:00–9:15pm through 27 September, cancelled in rain (gardensbythebay.com.sg). Borealis starts at 9pm. Pick the grove or the west lanterns. They are separate evenings. Science Centre is closed typical Mondays. Snow City is closed on typical Mondays. Lee Kong Chian is closed Mondays. The TreeTop Walk is closed Mondays. Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall is closed until 2027, Monday or otherwise. Zoo last entry is 5pm. Hell's Museum last entry is 5pm. Jewel Light & Music is 8pm and 9pm Monday to Thursday, plus 10pm Friday to Sunday. The cascade runs until 10pm (jewelchangiairport.com).

Sembawang Hot Spring on a Monday is opening or after 2pm, not 11. NParks closes the cascading pool Mondays and Thursdays 11am to 2pm for cleaning — nparks.gov.sg, last updated 27 January 2026. Water comes out at 70°C; it cools through four tiers to about 40°C at the toes. Egg-cooking station if you brought eggs and a container. No carpark on site; 114 Yishun Ring Road is 450 metres, eight minutes. Canberra (NS12) is the listed station. Do not cycle inside the park. Groups over 20 need a permit. Weekend queues are a different sport; a Monday at 7:15am is the civilised hour. Sembawang Hot Spring: 7am–7pm; cascading pool closed Mondays and Thursdays 11am–2pm (Sembawang Hot Spring). Yishun Pond is the Monday that does not close: 2.3 hectares, 24 hours, a spiral tower, the garden behind the hospital. The wards are 12 to 2 and 5 to 8. The pond is not.
