West Coast Park and the Strait

East Coast Park will sell you a lagoon and a 13-kilometre bike. Jurong also owns the other strait, 50 hectares parallel to West Coast Highway, and the hop-on bus treats it as a McDonald's with grass. It is a 50-hectare park on the strait. West Coast Park is NParks' Play Centre of the West: an adventure playground, a marsh, nine BBQ pits you actually book, tankers on the horizon, and a footpath in Area 1 that is closed until 31 December 2026. Clementi (EW23) is a bus, not a dump. Haw Par Villa (CC25) is the other door. Use either. Marine Parade is a different coast.

The park

West Coast Park is 50 hectares, open 24 hours, wheelchair accessible (nparks.gov.sg, last updated 27 January 2026). Three carparks, and NParks is specific: parking fees apply for all of them. Carpark 1: 52 car lots, 10 motorcycle, 2 handicapped, 12 coach, 4 EV. Carpark 2: 143 car, 22 motorcycle, 2 handicapped, 2 EV. Carpark 3: 273 car, 3 handicapped, 4 coach, 2 EV. The West Coast Park Connector is the bike. Clementi Woods and Pasir Panjang Park are the neighbouring greens. This is a park that happens to face the Singapore Strait. It is not a beach club.

Getting there

Clementi (EW23) Exit B, then bus 201 toward the west coast, off at Opp Waseda Shidaikyo Senior High and a walk south across West Coast Highway — about ten minutes once you are off the bus. Haw Par Villa (CC25): bus 175 or 176 from the opposite side of the highway, a few stops to West Coast Park (17291) for the middle of the strip. A taxi to Carpark 3 is the playground door. None of these is Marine Parade (TE26). Pack water.

Area 3

Area 3 is the visit if a child is the point. NParks still calls this the Play Centre of the West: a 1.1-hectare adventure playground, climbing nets, a pyramid, flying foxes, sand underfoot, the McDonald's that every west-side parent uses as a landmark. Carpark 3 is that door. Area 2 is the sit: nine barbecue pits you book on axs.com.sg before you drag a bag of charcoal, and a 7,600-square-metre therapeutic garden NParks opened in September 2024 — Senior Zone, Children's Zone, the third therapeutic garden in the west, halfway to the 30 they want by 2030. Do not pluck. The therapeutic garden is not a second playground. Area 1 is the end toward the ferry road, and a section of that footpath is closed for repair works until 31 December 2026. Walk the paths that are still open.

The marsh

The marsh garden is the quiet. White-breasted Waterhen and Striated Heron if you sit still; Oriental Pied Hornbill possible, not promised, the casque is yellow-white if you actually look up. Chocolate Pansy on the grass. Black-naped Oriole. Common Flangetail if a dragonfly is the point. The promenade lookout extends off the shoreline: sunset, yachts, tankers that are not a lagoon. This is the Singapore Strait, not the East Coast. You can swim at East Coast Lagoon. You come here to watch ships.

One coast

West Coast, East Coast Park and Pasir Ris Park are three separate coasts. A sequence that actually works: Clementi 448 at 7 if you want a west tray before the heat — lunch before 12:30, not a destination unless you are already on the East-West. Area 3 at 8:30 if a child is the point. Marsh and promenade at 10. BBQ only if you booked. Hell's Museum when the heat arrives.

Haw Par Villa

Haw Par Villa is the indoor hour this coast actually owns, and it is not the park. The outdoor sculpture grounds have been partially closed for maintenance since 8 December 2025; hawparvilla.sg still says until further notice. Hell's Museum — the ticketed, curated layer, daily 10am to 6pm, last entry 5pm — has stayed open, Ten Courts included. Adult S$22 / child 7–12 S$12, under-6s free, not recommended under 9 (hawparvilla.sg). Complimentary highlight tours at 10:30am, 12:15pm, 1:30pm, 2:45pm and 4:15pm, register at the lobby, first-come. Haw Par Villa MRT (CC25) is a one-minute walk to the museum, not to Carpark 3. Part of hell is open to the elements. Bring an umbrella. No food, no drinks, no pets. Haw Ror Villa 5 is selected evenings 8 October to 15 November 2026, 6:30pm to midnight (hawrorvilla.com). It is not this park, and it is not HHN.

Camping is Area 3, next to the playground, a NParks or AXS permit, not a walk-up with a tent from Decathlon. Basic toilets, no showers, mosquito sense every month of the year. Eligible applicants 16 or older with a Singapore residential address is the usual NParks camping rule — check the form, not a blog. Do not light a stove if you did not book a pit. The dog run is huge and it is not Area 3's sand. Keep the animals off the marsh.

Clementi (EW23) to 448: a few minutes in the town centre. 448 to the park is a bus, not a pleasant wander across the AYE. Haw Par Villa (CC25) to Hell's Museum: one minute. Hell's Museum to West Coast Park by bus: a few stops, not a walk you want at 2pm in September. Clementi Woods is 12 hectares, 24 hours, next to West Coast Plaza — a section closed for redevelopment from 5 September 2026, use the posted path (nparks.gov.sg). It is not Carpark 3. Clementi Woods Park: 12 hectares, 24 hours, beside West Coast Plaza (Clementi Woods Park). Kent Ridge Park is the Southern Ridges west end, a canopy walk, combine with Reflections at Bukit Chandu if you still have legs — that is a hill, not this lawn. Labrador is the cliff. Labrador's nature reserve is 7am–7pm; the surrounding park is 24 hours (Labrador).

Eat after, not on the sand. Clementi 448 is the west tray people still name if you refuse JEM. Ghim Moh is the Holland-adjacent breakfast if you came off at Buona Vista instead. Neither is a kopitiam on West Coast Highway. Return the tray. The McDonald's at Area 3 is a landmark, not a reason you rode the East-West line. Pick one hawker. The marsh is a different hour.

Monday on this strait is still a park. West Coast is 24 hours. Clementi Woods is 24 hours. Hell's Museum is daily, including Mondays. Science Centre is the Monday that is closed except public holidays and gazetted school holidays. Lee Kong Chian is closed Mondays. KidsSTOP is closed typical Mondays. JEM is the mall. A Monday here is a 7:15am promenade and a tray that is still serving. Jurong Lake Gardens is the other west green if the strait was a different morning — Lakeside Garden 24 hours, Chinese and Japanese Gardens 5:30am to midnight. Jurong Lake Gardens, this strait and the Ten Courts are three separate visits.

A sequence that fits. 448 at 7. Area 3 at 8:30 if a child is the point, marsh if it is not. Promenade at 10. Hell's Museum at 11, last entry 5, off by 6. Sunset at the lookout if the tankers are the light. BBQ only if you booked. HortPark is 6am to 11pm if the ridge is still in you, Labrador Park (CC27) closer than Clementi for that door. NUS UTown is the campus lawn, Kent Ridge, a different door. East Coast at 6:30am and this strait at 9 are two mornings. The lagoon still has stingray. This park has ships.

Planning limits

Planning limits: this is the Singapore Strait, not East Coast. Start the marsh in the morning in September. Area 1's footpath stays closed through 31 December 2026. West Coast, Labrador and Hell's Museum are three separate visits. No drones on the hornbill. No dogs in the marsh.
